I have brought this up before and it caused mayhem, but I'm going to revisit the topic because this year has been unacceptable with injuries. I don't see what makes our training staff exempt from criticism anymore than the front office or coaching staff. One could make the argument that we lost both of these first two games because of injuries. Even if you remove Sam and the freak case of mono, your still left with a laundry list: CJ, Avery, Tru (the whole spring), Maye (last year into this year). Quinnen, Jenkins, Qvale, Quincy and more from last year and the spring. In terms of quantity of injuries we are trending ahead of other teams....we can do better here.
I never quite understood this argument fans make. I played baseball at a very high level and played for over 20 years of my life. Injuries happen. There is sometimes no way of avoiding that. I tore my miniscus from overuse. I fractured my ankle with a foul ball. I tore my labrum from overuse. And finally I tore my rotator cuff, which ended my career, from overuse through years of throwing. None of that could have been avoided and I sure as hell do not blame the training staffs I had. Enunwa hurt his neck, an injury he has had in the past. His career is likely over due to his constant neck injuries. Mosley pulled a hamstring/groin running with a receiver during a live game. Maye has had a nagging shoulder injury but is participating fully in games. Trumaine Johnson had a nagging hamstring issue. Not sure how you feel the training department would resolve this. I've been in sports my entire life. Outside of a player not being in shape, there are injuries that happen in sports. A pulled hamstring, hurt shoulder, dangerous neck injury are not injuries that more conditioning would fix If you feel "we could do better", give me examples as to what could be done better to fix guys getting injured during live gameplay?
We do seem to have a lot of injuries at present, but I believe injuries are up in general around the NFL. I think part of that is due to starters not getting much if any work in preseason. I also think it may have something to do with fewer practices in pads, and players just aren't as conditioned to the pounding as they used to be, but I could be wrong about that. I don't know who our trainers are, and can't speak to the job that they are or aren't doing, but I do believe that trainers can have a pretty big impact upon the health of players on a team. It's been quite a few years, but at one point the Jets had a training staff that had the players doing a lot more stretching, yoga, and maybe even doing some martial arts and/or ballet, and the Jets had fewer injuries than most teams, and I think I even remember several players commenting how they felt more limber and fluid than ever before.
Almost every injury listed Is a contact injury, no fault of the trainers. The recovery is the trainers responsibility. Strength and conditioning would be at fault for non contact, but the shortened off season is the real blame. The Jets happen to have the best training staff in the league and have been praised by several FA signings. Most recently Bridgewater. But yeah, let's fire them.....
Can't players afford Personal Trainers? Betcha Dollars to Donuts they got them.. I say firings will continue until Morale improves!
Irrelevant. If Gase holds a press conference he will be crucified for his way of answering the questions. Why? Because, Gase sucks. These players are injured because Gase sucks. If Gase knew anything about football, he would design plays so that they are so confusing and elaborate that the defense would have no chance to touch our offensive play makers. Result? ZERO injuries. Fire the training staff, we don't need them.
Well duh. The better staff members you have, the higher the rating goes, therefore there are less injuries. All Douglas needs to do is hire more guys and them just being in the building adds to our training staff overall score. Quantity over quality.
Training staffs don't prevent injury. What would they have done, prevented Avery from running into somebody's knee? Its all just bad luck. Groins happen. Ankles happen. Nothing you can do about it but deal with it.
