Turns out this so called respected news anchor has been lying for over 10 years about being in a Chinook that took RPG fire in 2003. He was on Letterman in 2013 bullshitting this story and Letterman is calling him a hero etc. During a Rangers game last week, he's there to honor another soldier and tells the same story again. Finally, a soldier who was there tells everyone he's full of it and now he admits he's been lying about it since 2003. Questions: Is he mentally ill? Is this type of lie unique or is it commonplace? I read some social media this morning that was pretty good: Stuff like "don't blame Brian Williams, reminds me of the time I forgot that I fought in Gettysburg." & "Once I forgot the time I was wounded in the battle of Stalingrad." Brian Williams is an asshole.
He'll be alright. Some people are upset but overall he does a good job with coverage and is very likeable. Probably will be force to take a short break and return for the end of Spring. If NBC fires him (which would be silly) someone else will pick him up.
It would be silly from NBC's perspective because the people who watch him don't care if he's a liar or not. And he's likable, so ratings will be fine. For those who care about something called ethics and truth, we have a problem with him. But we didn't watch him before he got caught lying anyway.
