What do you draft nuts think of this guy? Today he announces he's done with UCLA to focus on his rehab for the NFL draft (he got injured week 3). The kid is an amazing athlete, but without a clearly defined position: played LB, CB, S, & RB all in his time at UCLA. Jim Mora (UCLA coach) tells him he thinks he's making a mistake for his NFL prospects by leaving school and declaring but who knows he might just be saying that because he doesn't want to lose the kid: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/13821985/myles-jack-ucla-bruins-return-school-enter-nfl-draft I personally think he is a great prospect as one of these modern style, speedy coverage MLBs in the NFL. He can cover the new fast TEs and stack the box in the run. I think athletically he's got it all for the NFL but I wonder about his mentality. Who gets injured and then says "well Fuck it then" and leaves college all together?
He would've left after the semester anyway only advantage to staying was whatever rehab he would have gotten. By leaving he will have to do his own thing on his own schedule wherever he pleases I assume which he'll have to pay for but then again it will be all he is focused on. I understand him not wanting to hobble around campus for a couple months if he didn't plan on finishing anyway. If he drops out of the first it shouldn't be far. Can play inside or outside linebacker and we would be great for us to have with the 32nd pick.
I love Jack. Don't think he is great for us though, he'll likely be gone before we pick and we should pick OL, not LB.
I think Jack would be a solid fit in our defense. The Jets have made it extremely clear they will take the BPA and not be concerned about the player's position in Rd 1. Jack won't be available with the Jets hopefully picking in late RD 1, but he probably won't be a top 5 pick either with no combine and limited workouts for teams. I see Jack right now being picked in the 10-15 range of Rd 1.
Jack would be a great fit for us. And he's really the only LB that could be available where we pick that would be worth that selection. Jaylon Smith and Scooby Wright should both go top 10 IMO. Wright is injured right now too though so we'll see how he comes back from that. But these 3 guys are the only LB's that are 1st round talent.
It sounds like the 2016 draft is shaping up to be a good one for offensive lineman. I would not be mad at going in that direction, and Jack is an excellent prospect as well. Watched some video of his last night. He really gets into the chest of offensive lineman when defending the run.
Jack, or a player like him, would truly cap off this defense. Its a great fit. The issue will be how much they value need at other positions on the other side of the ball. But like you said- last year they took the BPA philosophy in round 1.
We will never pick OL that high until Brick and/or Mangold retire..people keep asking for it every year and it just won't happen nor should it.
That's not a good way to go about things. If the Jets can find a good LT that can play RT until Brick is ready to retire then you should look to draft a player in the high rounds if they fit the BPA philosophy.
In total agreement w/ all of this. I really like the kid. He's a straight up football player w/ great quickness & ability to close. He doesn't have the greatest size or movement but he's more than an adequate athlete. I think he's the exact kind of LB Bowles seems to look for. Quick/Fundamentally sound/Instinctual.
I think I heard Kiper the other day discussing Jack saying he still could go at overall #12 in 2016 which is (to me) kind of hard to believe considering his knee injury. I think he'll drop maybe to the 2nd round. But that's probably the reason he decided to come out early. He thinks (based on what he's been told) he can still go very high. It's an economic decision on his part.
There has been a major drought at the MLB/ILB position over the last decade or so. When guys like this become available...if the injury appears to be properly healing & treatment is going smoothly, teams aren't gonna shy away in round 1.
He's the guy I see writers mocking to us as of late. I would be happy with the pick. He has a fantastic skill set.
I would've liked to have seen us make a move on a guy like Shaq Thompson this past draft - a talented player that can move around. I get that on a lot of teams he'd be a square peg in a round hole but in Bowles' scheme he would have fit in perfectly. An outside backer that can move back to safety or even some nickel coverage on tight ends I'd have to study up on Jack's tape as I have no idea how he compares to Shaq last year, but the write up does suggest similarities. I am all for versatile defenders on this team because we do have a coach that will be able to use them
Chronic knee is a big issue. We drafted D-Rob with bone on bone and it didn't affect his career much but I'm still blown away a decade plus later that we took that risk with a high pick, let alone a trade up.
If we can get Myles Jack in the 1st and Jaylon Smith in the 2nd/3rd there might be a season or two when they're both healthy.
Love Jack but you just can't trade up for a player with his injury history.... If he falls to us take him with no hesitation!!!
