1 KC- Luke Joeckel 2 JAX - Ezekial Ansah 3 OAK - Sharrif Floyd 4 PHI - Eric Fisher 5 DET - Dee Milliner 6 CLE - Dion Jordan 7 ARI - Lane Johnson 8 BUF - Geno Smith, QB WVU NY JET'S POST COMBINE MOCK: Rd 1) Damontre Moore, DE/OLB, Texas A&M - A poor showing at the combine drops his stock and is available to the NYJ. Moore has a great motor and is a relentless player. Jordan, & Ansah are gone and I'm getting the opinion the masses have been overrating Werner, and his fit with the Jets may not be the best. Sometimes poor showings at the Combine help teams and the Jets get the benefit of his stock dropping. Rd 2) Gio Bernard, RB, North Carolina - I don't think any RB is going to be drafted in Rd 1 and passing up Bernard would be plain stupid. Bernard's all-round skills make him an excellent player in the WCO. One of the better receiving RBs in the draft, something Marty will take fulll advantage of. Rd 3) Brennan Williams, OT, North Carolina - Another Tar Heel that would go much higher if he wasn't hurt. He's an immediate starter at RT. Hopefully he slips to us in Rd 3. Rd 4) Markus Wheaton, WR, Oregon St - I think he would be an excellent WCO WR. Not blazing fast, but can be very quick in space with slants and short patterns. Wheaton drops due to the amount of quality receivers ranked ahead of him. Rd 5) Sean Renfree, QB, Duke - I'm a big fan and any QB that has been tutored by David Cutcliffe, it's a plus. I'm not a fan of the top rated QBs and investing in the 1st 3 Rounds on a QB is a mistake this year. We may have a shot a some quality QBs in 2014's draft. Also, I still expect the Jets to sign a vet FA. Rd 6) Earl Wolff, S, NC St - The Jets continue to draft players from the state of North Carolina. Should be a standout Teams player with the ability to compete for a starting position in the near future. Rd 7) Jake Stoneburner, TE, Ohio State - Not much of a resume, but a terrific red zone threat. Solid blocker, under used at OSU. It's impossible to hit all needs in a draft, especially with the hole the Jets have in their depth chart. I believe I addressed a lot of needs with solid young talent.
one should note that Moore tweaked his hamstring on his first 40 attempt, then pulled it on his second. also, the bench press isn't something you should be too invested in.
I like it WW. Moore will definitely be there for us at 9. Stoneburner is the 7th would be a steal. had a pretty solid year but had off the field problems.
Intriguing draft, the talent down in North Carolina should not go unnoticed, I agree. Moore is worth the pick at 9 and hopefully he comes that pass-rusher we desperately need. Gio Bernard would just make me the happiest guy in the world. Feature back that can take over a game. Now does Brennan Williams end the Austin Howard project? They can compete for the starting position which is nice also. Excellent draft WW85.
101...I don't hate Howard, but I think we can upgrade the RT postion and move Howard inside to replace Moore. Williams would have been a Rd 1 pick if not hurt.
I would flip the round 3 and 4 picks if you want to get Wheaton. Stoneburner is a great option for TE in a WCO. The guy can catch the ball really well and gain yards after the catch. He ran a 4.65 40 and as an Ohio native I can tell you that's his game speed, too. His "off the field problems" were a single instance of "criminal mischief" or something like that when he and a teammate got in trouble for urinating outside at a golf tournament, then ran from security.
FWIW, I live in C-Bus. That incident happened at the Bogey Inn, been there many times, during the Memorial Tourney at Murfield. Wheaton, he may go in the 3rd, but this draft class is deep at WR and a few will fall.
Love it. Great stuff as usual, WW. I can't believe how high Ansah's stock has soared. In my first mock draft I had us trading down to the 20's for him, and people thought it was a reach. If Moore is there at #9 I think we have to take him (barring a terrible pro-day or an injury), but otherwise I am officially on the Warmack bandwagon. Seems like there are a half dozen pass-rushers we could grab at #9, but none of them are sure things. I'd rather have a franchise G for the next decade and never look back than have another top 10 bust. As far as Gio goes... I don't know if there is a more perfect fit at RB for us. I'm praying that JI will have the foresight to trade up a few spots in the 2nd if he is still there after the first round. Cincy and a few others will definitely have their eye on him.
I would absolutely love this... Two of my favorites in Gio and Wheaton. Also, I would love Moore at 9. Would prefer him over just about everyone. Yeah, he doesnt have the elite upside someone like Dion Jordan does, but he's a hell of a football player and has great technique. Wheaton is an immediate upgrade and provides a dynamic threat at WR. Only thing is, I dont really see him lasting until the 4th. I do think some receivers drop due to the depth as you said though, and if its him I would jump all over that.
idk, don't see how Star can drop to the Jets...it would be a very tempting pick.....or a trade offer...that would be interesting ok, seen the article on Star, makes sense....
There's a lot to like about this.. especially Gio and the late round values. in 3rd round, I'd really like to see a TE or G.....but if Williams a true value and BPA i certainly wouldn't complain. Do you have any info regarding Moore? 12 reps and hammy issues on 40 suggest not training hard. What's his tape say in terms of translating to 3-4 OLB? I've seen a lot more tape of Jordan than i have on Moore. thx
BTQ....Moore claims his Hammy effected his run...we will have to wait till his pro-day. 12 reps, that's not good, but I'm not going to make a big deal about it. Let's look at Moore's productivity...12.5 Sacks, 20 QB pressures in 2012. His motor was constantly running. He was a Top 3 player last week, based on his film work and productivity. He looks fast on the football field. I have more ??s about Ansah on the Football field than Moore. Let's not always fall in love with the Workout Warrior.....2008's Combine should be a clear NYJ's reminder.
Love the first 2. People are selling Moore way too short. We knew going IN that he needed to get stronger at the point of attack. That's his weakness. Bottom line is he has the frame to pack on another 10-15 pounds of muscle to go along w/ his long arms. He has plus movement skills & a nose for the football w/ a tangible upside (additional strength) already in place. I don't think Rex will pass on him.
Firstly, I like your top nine. I agree with Ansah and Floyd going in the top five and my next mock will likely feature the same. I get the feeling offensive tackles will be pushed high in this draft. I've heard talk of Menelik Wilson even being a mid first rounder, so seeing Lane Johnson going that high is no surprise. I was also thinking Dion Jordan to the Browns. The more I hear about him, the more I like. He's become a top choice of mine for the Jets at #9 if he's there, but I'm starting to think he may not be. And also, Werner out of the top five is interesting and I'm starting to see people that feel Tank Carradine is a better prospect. I like the Jets draft as well... Can't complain about Damontre Moore. Seems like the kind of guy who would've went top five at season's end, but falls during the offseason. Bernard would be a great value and a great fit. I think he'd be the pick if he's available. I like the rest of the draft too, especially Renfree. Although you mention that you can't fill all of this team's holes with seven picks, which is true, I'd really like to see a TE added earlier. I doubt Keller will be back and they can use someone to pair with Cumberland. Nice overall though.
Werner is gonna be a beast... His feet are quick and all he needs is proper coaching and he will be a force to reckon with. Moore is slow and we might as well havr kept Pace or Scott. Moore wont be able to cover anything or get to the edge to speed rush at 4.9
Ok, but he ran a 4.9 with a broken freakin' neck (hammy). So choke on that, slap nuts. /Kurt Angle /Jeff Jarrett Please excuse me while I jump off a bridge for making a Jeff Jarrett reference.
Love picks 1, 2, 4, 5 and 7. Moore is a great fit for this defense at OLB, though the combine is a little worrisome. Bernard in round 2 is really the only running back I would want this team to take in round 2, just because he's explosive, a very good receiver, and a very good fit in this offense. Wheaton is a nice player. I'd be surprised if he's there in round 4, though someone is going to drop. Renfree is probably my favorite late round quarterback in the draft. Round 5 is fine for him. Ohio State never uses their tight ends, Stoneburner is a good value in round 7.
