I'm not great with numbers so I'll leave them up to you guys... these are the players i want on the jets.. Not sure how realistic it is but with all the money we have I figure I'll have some fun with it... I'm also not THAT deep into college football to be doing a mock draft past the first 5 rounds...so keep that in mind also, i know the big names that's it. Cuts: Chris Johnson Calvin Pace Ryan Quigly Brian Winters Restructures: Percy Harvin D'Brickashaw Ferguson Re-signings: Snacks Harrison J. Jarrett Philip Adams (1 yr deal) Douzeable (1 yr deal) Bilal Powell (1 yr deal) John Conner (1 yr deal) Free Agency: Antonio Cromartie - Knows the system, loves the organization, an obvious need. Come on back Cro. 2 yr deal. Jason Worilds - We need someone to replace Pace. Worilds would be awesome in Bowles's attacking 3-4 defense. Rahim Moore - Replacement for Landry, a big need for that side of the field in coverage, plus is a ball hawk.. may be a little pricey but we've got the big bucks. With all the broncs remaining money about to be spilled into the Thomas's plus the players they splurged for last season, i can see Moore testing the market. Mike Iupati - Needs to be our first signing, throw him a big fat contract immediately. Tremendous upgrade to the OL and offense overall with this pick up Austin Davis - Competition for Geno, both QB's should be a good fit for Gailey's offense. More so Geno though. (1 yr deal) Jeff Linkenbach - Solid LG for KC, doesn't give up many sacks could be switched to the other side..him or Iupati. Together they will complete our o-line for short term until brick and mangold are needed to be replaced. Chris Jones - We need a punter, so we'll take this guy. Draft: Round 1, Pick 6: Traded pick to Houston for Houstons 2015 1st, 2015 2nd and 2016 2nd. Round 1, Pick 16: Miami ILB, Denzel Perryman We're going to need to replace David Harris. I call this kid Hitman JR. He already looks like a pro's pro. Big hitter, great speed, high pursuit sideline to sideline kinda guy. This kid will be an all-pro linebacker for years to come in a Bowles ran-system. He also can get off blocks if blitzing from the inside. STUD. STEAL. Round 2, pick 37: UCLA QB, Brett Hundley Fearless. Best word i can use to describe Hundley. We missed out on Mariota and Winston, this could be Geno's last stunt as the Jets QB.. If he fails again under another system, known for helping QB's...then he's a lost cause. Hundley an make all the throws, he can run and will not hesitate to throw his body on the line. If needed. He looks like he's a pro-style QB. Could possibly be a steal/our franchise QB. Round 2, pick 51 ( from houston ): Nebraska RB, Ameer Abdullah The perfect set up with Chris Ivory. Finesse and power mixed into one beast. Abdullah has Shady McCoy like cuts and also possesses great hands out of the backfield. Once Ameer gets the ball it's a highlight reel waiting to happen. Kid is a little small, but durable. Doesn't get hurt at all, so far. Abdullah averaged 6.1 yards per carry in 2014 for 1,611 yards with 19 touchdowns. He had 22 receptions for 269 yards and three touchdowns, too. Playmakers is what we lack, so playmakers is what we'll get. Round 3, pick 70: FSU WR, Rashad Greene In 2014, with Winston at QB Rashad Green tallied 99 catches. He's not very fast and sort of slim but he's a smooth as butter at running routes and has moves on moves after catch. In Gailey's offense we're going to run spread often so the more WR's the better. WR's with route running ability like Greene become a young QB's best friend very quickly. Round 4: Vanderbilt OT, Wesley Johnson ( no video ) Wesley Johnson can move from guard to tackle. Held his own in college vs great ends like Clowney. I put Johnson here to hopefully develop and fight for Ferguson's job in the near future. Round 5: Virginia Tech OLB, Dadi Nicolas Nicolas is a bit undersized, which is why he will probably drop in this years draft, but definitely has the production of an OLB you would want rushing the QB. in 2014 at VT he had 18 TFL and 9.5 sacks, finishing with 63 tackles. He could be one of our rotational pass rushers as you could never have enough of those on your team. I'm going to stop my draft there, like i said im not too deep into college football but i know a good grip of players that make noise. With that being said Here's a look at my probably not so realistic 2015 NY Jets. Of course this doesn't include undrafted FA's and other depth guys so it's a broad look. OFFENSE QB: Geno Smith, Austin Davis, Brett Hundley RB: Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell, Ameer Abdullah FB: Terminator WR: Percy Harvin, Eric Decker, Jeremy Kerley, Rashad Greene, TJ Wright, Greg Salas TE: Jace Amaro, Jeff Cumberland, Zach Sudfeld LT: Brick, Wesley Johnson LG: Jeff Linkenbach, Oday Aboushi C: Mangold RG: Mike Iupati RT: Gio <--- bum (sorry had to add that) DEFENSE LE: Mo Wilk NT: Snacks RE: Richardson LOLB: Worilds ILB: Perryman, Demario Davis ROLB: Coples CB: Antonio Cromartie, Dee Milliner, McDougle, Phil Adams FS: Rahim Moore., Antonio Allen SS: J. Jarrett, Calvin Pryor Let me know what you guys think... like I said i never tried this before..might not be realistic since i'm not a cap guy but i think all these players would fit great here. IF any of you guys wanna edit this with some cap be my guest
I picked Perryman b/c Harris will need a replacement, and perryman looks like the only legit run stopping 3-4 ILB. Plus i picked up Worilds in Free Agency to be OLB.
Actually will disagree with you on the punter; Quigley was good last year. Maybe camp competition as in a UDFA or journeyman FA, but don't outright cut him Decent FA signings overall, but I think the interior would be more than good with Iupati-Mangold-Aboushi, who had a decent first half-season as a starter. Also, Austin Davis is an RFA, so I'd consider another choice. Worilds is a decent name though Trade downs are very ideal, but why does Houston trade up and give up so much to move up just 9 spots? I mean, that's a lot. 2 first round picks AND 2 seconds Perryman would be a good pick, but not at 16. Huge reach now IMO as he would likely be available at 37 or even 51. Normally I'd say no to Hundley, but with Chan Gailey as an OC, I have a little bit more confidence going for a young guy with flaws. Not sure what sort of QBs he likes though Rashad Greene would be a nice addition there, especially given how many picks they have in this scenario. Also like Abdullah Wesley Johnson was drafted by Pittsburgh last year... And good news for you is he's on the Jets now! Even further a moot point because the Jets won't have a 4th round pick if they keep Percy though. Overall, should be fine with the cap. Would like to see more viable QB competition than those guys, but offense would be solid. Defense looks decent too. Don't forget about Babin at OLB; he played very well last year. Biggest issue is mostly the unrealistic trade down, reach at 16 for Perryman, and have the 4th and Percy Harvin
If the QB isn't named Marcus or Jameis then they have no use on this team. Every QB behind those 2 are serviceable backups at best for their ceiling in the NFL. Rather let Geno compete again with a FA signing n if he sucks go for Hackenburg or Cook in next year's draft. Use the 2nd or 3rd rounders this year elsewhere, like WR or OT or ILB. And Perryman at 16 is way too high. He's an early 2nd IMO. Rather go after Kevin White or Devante Parker or best available OLB like Vic Beasley
Not sure we'd trade down and then add a MLB with bigger immediate needs. The 2nd round picks would ensure we continued the path of horrible 2nd round picks. Running backs arent as valuable in the draft anymore at best 1 will be taken in the first round meaning a lot better guys will be available in the 2nd. Hundley scares everyone. Greene would be a good pickup in the 3rd. If we keep Percy we will not have a 4th.
So... Well... 1) Perryman in the first is a pretty bold move. I like Perryman's instincts and tackling but I'm worried he's just not athletic enough at the NFL level. In fact I'm not so sure he's a much better prospect than his teammate Armbrister who might go undrafted. If you want a dynamic, playmaking ILB, my advice is take Paul Dawson from TCU. That guy is a complete, electric player. 2a) Hundley, man... I'm sorry Hundley is not good. this is a terrible year for QBs. You're better off with Cardale Jones if he declares IMO. The only things Hundley has over Jones are number of starts and speed. Jones has better accuracy and decision making and equivalent arm strength and size. 2b) I like Abdullah. This year is completely stacked with running backs and he's a good one as long as his health checks out. 3) Love Greene. Good pick, reliable player. 4) Wesley Johnson was drafted in the 5th round by the Steelers last year. *edit - just saw this was already pointed out* 5) I have no observations to give on Nicolas.
Thanks for that info on Wesley idk y his name came up on the 2015 prospect list lol.. I'll have to blame my source for that one. The houston trade i had them giving us their 1st and 2 2nds. Not two firsts. Idk why but I really think Perryman is going to be an all-pro LB for years. I love watching dude play. Such a ball hawk. A young Pat Willis... If only he were a little bigger.
Lol that johnson pick is embarrassing now..shoulda did better research .. I think my free agency would fix ALOT though and still leave some cap space for things like restructuring Mo'.. Especially with the restructures of brick and percy
Ah that's my bad; I misread it. There's a lot to like about Perryman and I do believe value is a relative measure in the draft, but it seems at least now that he'd be available in the 2nd
I'd like another WR playmaker like Torrey Smith or Jeremy Maclin, or Amari Cooper in the draft, as Gailey will run 4 WR sets. Also, add another veteran CB like Brandon Flowers. Curious why you didn't' include Marcus Williams in front of Phil Adams, or at all. We need to spend 89% of our cap from 2012-2016, and I believe were are around 80% at the moment, so we have to spend this year. May as well go for Justin Houston, as that would make this an amazing D. Iupati is a must. Getting Colon and Winters/Aboushi out of the starting lineup will pay huge dividends for Geno.
That's what Rashad Greene in the 3rd round is. IMO that makes for a good, balanced 4-WR set. If 4-WR sets are Gailey's thing, I expect to see a lot of Amaro in that role also, one he was especially successful in during college I'm starting to doubt that Houston hits the market, but I hope he does. If this team spends smartly in free agency and focuses on utilizing the draft, I think I'd like to see them break the bank for him
for some odd reason i always get Marcus Williams and Phil Adams confused for one another. Maybe because they were the new pick ups..our secondary had so many different looks it's hard to keep up lol. I was really trying to avoid listing the playbook guy.
Lol @ the Hundley pick.... you want to go from Geno and replace him with Brett are u serious this whole mock is horrible
