Thanks to GH, Jabba, Brandt,CBS,Scout and other Mocks for ideas and approximate player rankings. I think I prefer a super unit so I am aiding d first. I also think that with Tebow rising and McCoy having a good work out we are in good position to trade down if someone we really want isn't there and I like the mix of players top of round two. The values with Clev fit so well and needs that I project it as well. Jets 29 for Clev. 38 and 92. It fits so well it can't happen but here goes 38. Carlos Dunlap DE FL 6-6 277. Character issues and motor questions lead to drop and we take the chance that our locker room and coach can keep him motivated. If so top ten talent. Has played 3-4 end and can even slide inside if we go to 4 (Taylor?) man front in passing situations. Our line is aging and no question of talent. 61. Torrel Troup NT Cent FL 6-3 314. I think there may be a run on NT in the second as many teams converting to 3-4 and only so many planets out there. I want depth on our line and he provides some versatility and has a good motor. Cam Thomas or Linval Joseph are other options here. 92. Javier Arenas CB AL 5-9 197. Arenas is well suited to be a nickle back and cover the slot. Very tough in order to overcome size. Benches 400+. Two other features. Very good blitzer, despite size good tackler and outstanding punt returner. Alabama even wanted to find ways to use him on offense. 124. Andre Roberts WR Citadel 5-11 195. Riser looks like a weapon in the slot. 163. Shaun Lauvo OG AZ st. 6-3 315. Groom behind Faneca. Experience at LT,LG and RT. If gone, I have seen scouts rank Ciron Black LSU much lower than mockers as his rep is greater than his work outs and he is plummeting. I like Black at RT but want guard first. 198. If LeGarret Blount RB Oregon is sitting here I would take the flyer but I really want to build offensive line depth. Depending on above pick I reverse positions and take either Kevin Haslem RT 6-5 305 Rutgers or Brandon Cater OG 6-6 329 Tex Tech. 236. Brent Bowden Punter Virginia Tech. We need Competition and a punter. Hope he lasts and if not grab another. If get Blount above lineman of choice. Hope you enjoy
I really like this mock, especially the first three picks. Roberts won't be there and Troup was overdrafted. He could go in the second round. Blount has some big issues, but he's a freak at the position. He'll go higher than most people expect. Javy Arenas is probably my favorite nickel corner in this draft. It's a really good mock, though.
Thanks for feedback. I don't know a lot about Troup, Gil Brandt had him ranked 50-60 so I thought 61 was ok. I want NT depth and this appears decent value and I think there will be multiple NT go in the second so they all may elevate. One of the three I mention should have a chance to be there.
Also love this draft answers many questions. But my only problem is similar too Mr. E is that I believe Roberts won't be there in the 4th for us most likely mid 3rd round to early 4th. I could see Barnes, Briscoe, Blair White, Shipley, or Marcus Easley all there to choose from. Not bad consallation prizes if you ask me.
I like how we get some youth on our defensive line. Dunlap is too big of a risk for me at #38, but I understand that if he gets his head on straight and works hard it could be a MAJOR steal... Or he could flame out pretty fast. I really don't see Andre Roberts lasting to the bottom of the 4th. I think we'd be pretty fortunate to get him at the bottom of the 2nd round. Arenas is a good player. He looks like an ideal slot corner and kick returner. I'm not a big fan of taking Blount, but the other two picks are solid. Overall this would be a good draft though
Carlos Dunlap will be a major steal if he makes it out of the top twenty. You're right, though...he has to get his mind right. I think Dunlap will be a hell of a 3-4 end if he's got someone to spell him every now and then. We have that with DeVito. His motor runs hot and cold when it came to rushing the passer, but he was always good against the run. The kid was constantly double teamed. If he falls to 29, I would be excited if he were the pick. I think taking a shot on a player of his caliber would be worth it at the end of the first. Our options at 29 will be limited. It's going to be very hard to find a player that's a "sure-thing" when our pick comes around. Jared Odrick won't be there. He's the only 3-4 end that'd I have ahead of Carlos Dunlap. Suh and McCoy aren't in my rankings because they won't be there. I've been thinking about this for a long time - I think Rex Ryan would want a player like to draft a player like Alualu instead of Dunlap. He values hard-working, high motor players.
