Trade 4 overall to Lions for 9 overall and 40 overall 9) Michael Huff, CB/S, Texas 29) Marcus McNeill, OT, Auburn 35) Bobby Carpenter, OLB, Ohio State 40) Jason Avant, WR, Michigan 71) Max Jean Gilles, OG/OT, Georgia 97) Babatunde Oshwindo, NT, Stanford Michael Huff fills a big need at CB, yes we have Miller but Strait, Barret won't cut it. This would give us a feared secondary for years to come. Marcus McNeill fills the glaring need at RT, probably the only problem with our O line right now. Bobby Carpenter gives us a pass rushing OLB who can really make coordinators game plan around him; perfect for Mangini's 3-4. Jason Avant has a terrific upside to him; he is fast, makes all the catches, never gives up, and has a deep threat. His only problem is durability, which makes him drop this far...but with Schott's coaching, he can develop into a top-teir WR. Now is where I may get chewed out. Alot of people project Max Jean Gilles in the second or even first round. I think he will last until this pick, because he had less than stellar work outs at the combine. You guys may say, "Thats never gonna happen" but guys fall and I think he has a good chance of still being on the board when this pick rolls round. Finally, the unpronouncable NT, Babatunde Oshwindo. He gives us the NT of the future who isn't needed right away, but can groom with KVO and turn decent. Thats my mock draft. Critique me now, I'll be on vacation the next week.
I would love the trade, but I always see everyone making this trade in their own mock. Why does Detroit want to trade up? - I guess I could live with Huff, but I'm not crazy over the pick. - I do like that we picked Avant, but he'll be around with the #97 chances are.
Picking Huff is an interesting idea. Dyson and Miller are no sure bets to be quality starters and if they do work out Huff can replace Kerry Rhodes at safety.
We don't need Huff after signing Dyson, he'd be nice to have but we have much bigger needs than DB now.
