It would be tought to pass on Maroney, but I would love having Mangold. Do you think Manny Lawson will be available at #35?
Mangold and Maroney is a tough call, I would like to add that we get Gilles at 35 just to help things out, with the first pick I like Hawk but would still be very happy to have Williams
I've seen Bunkley go from the top 15 to early second in mock drafts... I know he's a solid DT. Would he be a consideration for the Jets at 29?
I am not completely sure but I think he is a 3-technique, so I doubt it, we need a NT type like Ngata,
In a 3-4 are NTs there to just take up space and keep the O-line off the LBs? How much mobility is required?
Mobility isn't a neccesity, the 3-4 NT is there to take space and keep the LBs clean, able to roam free and make plays. Bunkley wouldn't be a consideration for the Jets. He is a three-tech DT, which is a 4-3 penetrating tackle. The Jets would be looking for a two-gap DT, which is basically a big body to take on blockers in the middle.
I would take Gilles or Cromartie over Mangold. Also I would move down from # 4 if Fergson, Leinhart and Bush were all gone.
After doing a little searching (mainly nfldraftcountdown.com) there seems to be a limited pool of heavy loads in this draft, as there are in most drafts. Other than Ngata and Watson there are a few lower rated, heavy NTs. If mobility is not a concern (and we don't draft Watson or Ngata) I think a second day pick (and definitely as an undrafted FA) for one of these guys is worth it... If there are any others out there let me know http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/dt/kwakourobinson.html http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/dt/stevefifita.html http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/dt/jessemahelona.html
Mahelona is really a 3 technique DT too, Tennessee Jet. He is a good pass rusher which isn't really needed at nose tackle. I like Montavious Stanley who can play nose, or end. He's primarily a run stuffer whom has a low center of gravity, a non stop motor and strong arms. All assets at nose tackle.
if we pass on maroney(or lendale or deangelo for that matter) at 29....i'm going to freak these guys are all legit top 10-12 talent, and a franchise rb is a pressing need Mangold would be nice as hell, but let's be real here
It's pretty good for the most part... - I still think we should take AJ Hawk, but I wouldn't be too upset with Mario Williams. - Detroit with Cutler? Josh McCown will probably end up starting as Jon Kitna backs him up with Dan Orlovsky as the 3rd guy. I guess you just forgot that they signed them though.. - Tamba Hali isn't a good fit for Dallas with their 3-4 and neither is Bobby Carpenter for New England. They'd be more prone to take Manny Lawson or Kamerion Wimbley. - Good job on not taking Laurence Maroney. It'll pay off once we see what a steal Cedric Hoston is. - Eh, Chicago has Mike Brown and the 6th round steal Chris Harris at Safety. - I guess this means Thomas Davis plays Safety for Carolina... Not a problem though...
