I'll do the first round, then I'll include the rest of our picks at the end. 01: Atlanta (TRADE) -- Jadeveon Clowney (DE, South Carolina) - ATL will trade up, because it's what they do. Clowney is one of the biggest defensive prospects to come out of college. ATL needs DLinemen, it fits. 02: Buffalo (TRADE) -- Khalil Mack (OLB, Buffalo) - another trade? STL will also be looking to trade their pick. I strongly believe Buffalo will do everything to keep Mack there. he fills a huge need. 03: Jacksonville -- Blake Bortles (QB, UCF) - Jax needs a QB, Blake is the ideal fit for them. 04: Cleveland -- Sammy Watkins (WR, Clemson) - Cleveland will wait to take a QB later on, they can't pass up Watkins. whoever their QB ends up being he'll have a bunch of weapons. 05: Oakland -- Derek Carr (QB, Fresno State) - Oakland is heading in a new direction, they have made a boatload of signings this FA. they acquired Matt Schaub. I say draft a QB to compete with him, because Schaub has proven to be incompetent. 06: Houston -- Teddy Bridgewater (QB, Louisville) - I recently saw that Houston was interested in drafting a QB but they didn't want to do so at 1 overall. so at 6 overall they land Bridgewater. they need to grab a QB. 07: Tampa Bay -- Mike Evans (WR, Texas A&M) -- TB needs someone to pair with Vincent Jackson, ironically enough they do so with a prospect who garners many comparisons to Jackson. 08: Minnesota -- Greg Robinson (OT, Auburn) - Minn is in a tough spot here. they want a QB, but I don't think they'll reach for one when 3 of them have gone already. I don't think they are interested in Manziel, so they'll try their luck in R2. Robinson is a great consolation prize. 09: St. Louis -- Jake Matthews (OT, Texas A&M) - STL needs OLine help, it's a perfect fit. 10: Detroit -- Justin Gilbert (CB, Oklahoma State) - Detroit's secondary is terrible, in a pass happy division might as well grab the top CB. 11: Tennessee -- Anthony Barr (OLB, UCLA) - Tenn filled a few voids this offseason, OLB was not one of them. Barr is BPA for that position. 12: New York (G) -- Eric Ebron (TE, North Carolina) - I couldn't even tell you who the Giants TE is. Eli could use more weapons. 13: St. Louis -- Darqueze Dennard (CB, Michigan State) - STL needs to repair their secondary, Janoris Jenkins was a good pick a couple years back paired with Dennard gives them some stability in another pass happy division. 14: Chicago -- Calvin Pryor (S, Lousiville) - Chi recently lost Major Wright. Pryor fits Chicago's style. 15: Pittsburgh -- Marqise Lee (WR, USC) - Pitt recently lost Sanders and Cotchery, they need to add another receiver to help out Antonio Brown. 16: Dallas -- Aaron Donald (DT, Pittsburgh) - most of Dallas DLine has flown the coop and they need to fix it immediately. Donald being there at 16 is a no brainer for JJ. 17: Baltimore -- Hasean Clinton-Dix (S, Alabama) - Baltimore went safety last year, adding Ha Ha to Elam is a nice one two punch for the secondary. 18: New York (J) -- Brandin Cooks (WR, Oregon State) - we need a receiver, simple as that. Cooks is the BPA at that position. 19: Miami -- Taylor Lewan (OT, Michigan) - Miami needs OL help, a not too popular position in Miami with the scandal but they need to fill the void. 20: Arizona -- Ra'shede Hageman (DT/DE, Minnesota) - Zona's DL is getting up there in age, time to recruit young bucks. 21: Green Bay -- C.J. Mosley (ILB, Alabama) - Ted Thompson will take BPA, and that will be Mosley. it also fills a position of need. 22: Philadelphia -- Jimmie Ward (S, Northern Illinois) - I believe Ward is a first rd talent, Philly needs to repair their secondary. 23: Kansas City -- Zack Martin (OT/G, Notre Dame) - KC lost Asamoah, Martin at 23 overall is great value. 24: Cincinatti -- Bradley Roby (CB, Ohio State) - Cincy has aging corners, Roby fits the mold. 25: San Diego -- Louis Nix (NT, Notre Dame) - increasing the DL should be a top priority. 26: Cleveland -- Johnny Manziel (QB, Texas A&M) - I strongly believe Johnny will fall in this draft, good thing for Cleveland. also good thing for JFB, he gets to throw to Watkins and Gordon. 27: New Orleans -- Kony Ealy (DE, Missouri) - NOLA needs to generate any kind of pass rush. Ealy will help out with that. 28: Carolina -- Odell Beckham Jr. (WR, LSU) - this is a no brainer. Carolina has Cotchery at receiver. they'll take best receiver available. 29: New England -- Kelvin Benjamin (WR, Florida State) - NE has loaded the defensive side of the ball, but Brady still has no receivers. Benjamin is a raw prospect, but under Brady he will prosper. 30: San Francisco -- Jason Verrett (CB, TCU) - SF has lost Rogers, Whitner and Goldson in the last two years. they need to fix their secondary. 31: Denver -- Xavier Su'a Filo (OG, UCLA) - Denver has an older OL. Filo impressed at the combine. 32: Seattle -- David Yankey (OG/T, Stanford) - Seattle needs to fix their OL up as well. Yankey is one of the most polished linemen in this class the rest of our picks, a bit of a disclaimer: I had some fun with this. I had STL trade back early in the first I would believe they get an extra second in there, giving them three total picks. we trade up 37 overall and give up our third, and one of our fourths and our seventh, but keep our original second round pick. STL still has two seconds, now have two thirds and two fourths. 2a: Dee Ford (OLB, Auburn) 2b: Troy Niklas (TE, Notre Dame) 4a: Weston Richburg (C, Colorado State) 4b: Yawin Smallwood (ILB, Connecticut) 5: Dri Archer (WR, Kent State) 6a: Aaron Colvin (CB, Oklahoma) 6b: Kenny Ladler (S, Vanderbilt) 6c: Tom Hornsey (P, Memphis) 6d: Richard Rodgers (TE, California) I know some won't like this at all, but it's a different perspective. we add two receivers (Cooks, Archer) both of which will excel in MM's offense and also two TE's (Niklas, Rodgers). Also, I didn't draft a RB because I'm hoping we pick up Chris Johnson. thoughts?
I have a couple disagreements, first there is just no way Pryor goes before Clinton-Dix. Pryor is a good player and closes fast, but Clinton-Dix is just too good. His range, football IQ, body control, and ball skills make a great safety, and I'd flip s*** if he somehow fell to us at 18. That being said I don't think he falls past 9-12. I've been watching tape on the CBs and Safeties and Clinton-Dix is no doubt the best DB in the draft. Second, NE isn't going to take Benjamin, and Brady does have receivers. He has Gronkowski, Edelman, Amendola, LaFell, and the two rookies from last year Dobson and Thompkins. They have plenty of WRs, but what they need is another TE to run their best offensive packages and for insurance in case Gronk gets hurt again. On top of that, the Patriots are definitely in a win now mode and aren't going to spend their first rounder on a project WR. Third, Louis Nix is a quintessential 2-down run stuffing nose tackle, and not only is he basically a non factor as a pass rusher, he likely won't even play 3rd downs. Fourth, There is not a chance in hell that Tampa would take Mike Evans with Greg Robinson on the board. They are desperately in need of a LT with Donald Penn departing and they have a number 1 receiver already. I have other issues but those to me are just absolutely not going to happen in a million years.
It's a matter of opinion. Amendola is injury prone, as is Gronkowski as of late. I don't think a TE was BPA for NE at that point. Thompkins and Dobson both had flashes but nothing that Benjamin would bring to their arsenal. It came down to Benjamin or Amaro for me and I didn't think Amaro was worth a first round pick. As for Tampa Bay, I slotted them with Mike Evans because they need another receiver. Evans would learn under Jackson and give McCown two solid targets. OL can be had in R2, they pick early on and there are many options. I guess the same could be said about receivers, but again it's just an opinion. Admittedly, I switched SD and NO's picks up. That was an error on my part. I did a lot of moving around and I guess it slipped my mind. Ealy was supposed to be NO's pick and Nix was SD's pick. I'll switch it ASAP. As for Pryor and Ha Ha it's about perspective. Although I think Ha Ha is a good player, he often gets overrated because of where he went to school. I also think Pryor is a better fit for CHI than Ha Ha is. Surely STL could take Clinton-Dix but I gave them Dennard, because a safety can be had in rounds 2 or 3 for them. I think Dennard will be great in the NFL.
cooks is not the BPA at 18 thats just a reach for a need cookis is in the 20s range of this draft if not a 2ยบ round pick.
could brickshaw move to right tackle? cuz lewan biggest critic is that he cant play right. due to difrent mechanics
Both Amendola and Gronk are injury prone, which is all the more reason to draft a TE since they don't have any others but have a number of WRs including their LEADING receiver last year, Edelman. NE hasn't made outside WRs their primary offensive weapon for years now, and they certainly aren't going to do it in what might be Tom Brady's last season, especially with a project WR. Besides, NE isn't a BPA team, they target specific guys, sometimes trading up sometimes trading back. In 2012 they traded up for Chandler Jones and Dont'a Hightower. As for Tampa, the depth at WR indicates you can take a starter in round 2-3 this year but the same cannot be said for starting LT. If you have a #1 WR and it's a deep WR draft therefore allowing you to bring in a starting WR in later rounds, but NO starting LT and the best OT on the board is available but you will likely not be able to find a plug-in LT in later rounds, it's common sense. It's just not going to happen with the top rated tackle on the board, I absolutely promise you. Clinton-Dix is not overrated because he went to Alabama. He was a very big reason for their success in 2012 and winning the BCS Championship. Milliner was also one of the biggest parts actually. I digress, but Clinton-Dix is a rare talent, and if he is pushed out of the top 10 it is only because 3 QBs go in the top 10. Clinton-Dix is just too good of a prospect not to go before a player like Pryor, and it's not really opinion it's game tape and skill set. Just so you know, Matt Elam is a FS so Calvin Pryor would actually be a better pairing with Elam than Clinton-Dix. Some defenses use two SS but I don't know of any defense in recent memory that used 2 genuine FS.
I think if he's there we will consider him, but will ultimately take a receiver to give Geno another weapon.
Good effort Ozy. Not sure about Buffalo trading up for an OLB given their needs at OT and WR(More so OT) and that they already have a very talented front 7. I'll stick with the Jets though. RD 1: WR Brandin Cooks - Cool pick. I am alright with it happening. I know trading down is not an option with KC/PHI both going to be hot and heavy for the kid so if we want Cooks, it has to happen at 18. RD 2: OLB Dee Ford - I am never a fan of trading up but if Ford somehow randomly fell to the Jets at 37, I totally get the move. That being said, it would have to be some sort of upset if Ford fell out of round 1, never mind the top 35. RD 2: TE Troy Niklas - Happy we got an Irish player. I don't know if Niklas will be that stud TE everyone is craving but as a run opener and pass protector, he's a good pick. Fits what we want in ground and pound. Really remains to be seen as far as a receiving TE though. Wonder how he gets separation, never really put up the gaugy numbers at Notre Dame.....though sitting behind Eifert and having Tommy Rees throw it to him play a big factor. RD 4: C Weston Richburg - Our first pick I am not too big on. No safeties, no cornerbacks chosen yet so we draft Mangold's potential replacement if he's ever hurt? No doubt Richburg offers up great value but at some point and time we need to go after a massive hole in the safety position. Same with Cornerback. RD 4: ILB Yawin Smallwood, - No doubt we need an ILB, given Harris is a FA after this year.....but I prefer to get one in round 6 or 7, not so much in round 4. Again I think safety and cornerback are bigger needs at this point where we need to come out of this draft with at least ONE starter at FS/SS/CB. At this point, I would be asking myself why would we be so confident on our secondary. RD 5: WR/RB/KR Dri Archer - LOVE this pick, love the player but its going to take a 4th round pick to get this guy. His speed and versatility will have him off the board very early in Day 3 regardless of size or durability. I would be cool using one of the 4th round picks on this guy. That being said though, if we sign/trade for Chris Johnson.....I really have to question if we take a RB in the draft, even if its a versatile one in Archer. RD 6: CB Aaron Colvin - Rex/Idzik must love Milliner/Wilson/Patterson enough to go to war with those 3 because unless Colvin is this super steal in round 6, I can't say that I would be happy waiting so long to get one of our 3 biggest needs. RD 6: S Kenny Ladler - Again, Rex/Idzik must love Landry/Allen/Jarrett or Bush to go to war with those guys because unless Ladler is this super steal in round 6, I can't say that I would be happy waiting so long to get one of our 3 biggest needs. I'd actually be okay if we took a S and CB among our first 3 picks at this present time. RD 6: P Tom Hornsey - Great pick, get the 2nd best punter in the draft. We need a long time, effective fixture at the spot. RD 6: TE Richard Rodgers - Has to be some sort of shock if this guy fell to late round 6. Won't complain though this means the Sudfeld project is finished. I'd go with a 2nd safety here but to each's own. Overall I like the talent we got but I hate relying on two rookie 6th round picks to help our in the secondary. Also, it would be a shock if we didn't take a big body WR in this draft. I like Archer and Cooks but neither are this. This means David Nelson and/or Stephen Hill are going to be in the team's big plans this summer. If we drafted BPA at S and CB in round 4, and then take the ILB with one of the 6th round picks along with a OLieman......... all of a sudden my mood changes on this draft.
Manziel IS MUCH better than the genome, pick Manziel and let him sit behind Vick for this year & he'll be our starter next season. The genome will battle Matt Simms for the 3rd string spot & Simms WILL beat him out.
Lol, you're doing great! Keep going and you can take over for Manish when he becomes head writer for The Sky Is Falling Weekly.
I'd be shocked too, can't flip flop a vet like Brick but if Vick wins the job we're going to have to make adjustments. _
Minor adjustments, certainly nothing like swapping tackles, especially since Vick is a one year guy even if he starts, which I don't really expect.
You don't get it because your philosophy is obviously drafting for need. It looks like the poster's philosoph is more akin to Idzik's, i.e., taking bpa. You also have to factor in if a player you like or who will fit your systems is available at a position of need in a certain round. You can't just say, I'm gonna take a CB or S in the first 3 rounds
