Before I begin, I want to preface that I’m no pseudo-capologist like some on this board. If some of these contracts seem off, let me know. Since Sanchez and his contract are not going anywhere this upcoming season, my approach was to give him the best possible chance for success for his 2013 “make or break” season. The off-season theme for the offense is continuity, familiarity and experience. If Sanchez fails, it won't be because we lacked these. The off-season theme for the defense is youth and versatility. Our defense is too old with too many specialized players.

    Front Office/Coaches Firings
    -Fire Mike Tannenbaum as GM
-Fire Matt Cavanaugh as QB coach
-Mike Westoff retires as ST coach

    Front Office/Coaches Hirings
-Hire John Dorsey, the Packers’ director of football operations. As Rich Cimini wrote he “…worked at the side of Ron Wolf, one of the best GMs in history”. I’ll add the Packers have done the best job building through the draft in the past 10 years. They sign very few free agents. Most of their roster is home grown.
-Hire Chad Pennington as QB coach. Chad knows Sparano’s offense and what it’s like to be QB1 in this market.
-Hire Chris Tabor as ST coach. He’s part of the Browns’ coaching staff who will all be out of a job soon, if not already. The Browns are one of top ST units. Prior to joining the Browns, he helped the Bears become one of the top ST units in the league.

    Cap
-Jets Current Cap is $142 Million.
    -Projected Cap is $121 Million.
-Rollover Cap Space is $4 Million.
Current cap space is -$17 Million.

    Cuts
-ILB Bart Scott saves $7 Million.
-OLB Calvin Pace saves $8.5 Million.
-SS Eric Smith saves $3 Million.
-OT Jason Smith saves $12 Million.
After cuts cap space is $13.5 Million.

    Trades
-QB Tim Tebow to the Jaguars for their 6th round pick saves $2.5 Million.
-CB Antonio Cromartie to the Broncos for their 2nd and 4th round picks saves $8.25 Million. The Broncos window is now; Cromartie fills a current need and can be their CB1 when Bailey’s finally retires. The Jets proved this year that you can be a top passing defense if you surround a top corner with decent talent in the secondary. Investing $20 million in cap room on two cornerbacks is not good cap management. Cromartie’s trade value is the highest it will be from this point on.
After trades cap space is $24.25 Million.

    Restructures
    -QB Mark Sanchez
    -ILB David Harris
    -DT Sione Pouha
After restructures cap space is $35.00 Million.

    FA Re-signees
    -K Nick Folk
    -OG Matt Slauson
    -TE Jeff Cumberland
    -LS Tanner Purdum
    -WR Braylon Edwards
    -DE/OLB Bryan Thomas
After FA re-signees cap space is $25.00 Million.

    FA Signees
-Redskins TE Fred Davis was Sanchez college TE at some point. This is our opportunity to rectify the mistake made in the 2008 draft when we traded back into the 1st to pick Keller. We could stayed put and drafted Davis with our 2nd round pick a better value. Davis is coming off an injury; he should have a cheaper price tag than he would otherwise.
-Colts OT Winston Justice has played mostly RT for his entire career that includes college.
-CB Philip Adams has plenty of game experience including some as a starter. Rex type of CB who is physical, good in press coverage and has closing ability. Can also contribute as a returner.
-FB Jerome Felton paved the way for AP’s 2,000 yard season.
-OLB Brandon Siler will provide LB depth.
After FA signees cap space is $14.00 Million.

    Draft
-Round 1 Georgia OLB Jarvis Jones 6-2 242
We switch our base package to a 4 man front so that we get all our best defensive linemen talent on field at the same time. Then utilize Jones as a 4-3 OLB in the same manner the Broncos do Miller.

-Round 2 Texas FS Kenny Vaccaro 6-1 218
This is a Rex guy. He eats, sleeps and sh!ts football. Has experience playing the nickel which is added bonus.

-Round 2 Alabama RB Eddie Lacy 5-10 220
Bernard is the most complete RB in this draft but Lacy fits Rex ground and pound philosophy best and brings some of the elements we lose by letting Greene walk.

-Round 3 Boise State CB Jamar Taylor 5-11 198
Another Boise CB product. He may not be as willing to mix it up in the running game like Kyle Wilson but he has better “cover” skills IMO than Wilson coming out. He and Philip Adams provide insurance for the lost of Cro.

-Round 4 Arkansas OG Alvin Bailey 6-5 315
Bailey will compete with Ducasse for the starting RG.

-Round 4 Georgia SS Shawn Williams 6-1 218
He’s ½ of Georgia talented safety duo. He’s more of the in-box guy while Bacarri Rambo is more of the ball hawk. I think he compares favorably to former Georgia SS prospect and current Dolphin Reshad Jones. Jeremiah Bell will now have the distinct pleasure of being replaced by Georgia safeties in back to back seasons.

    -Round 5 Florida OLB/DE Lerentee McCray 6-2 249
Injuries has hurt his productivity but McCray possesses really good speed, long arms and a high motor. He will provide more depth to the depleted LB corp.

    -Round 6 Tennessee-Martin DT Montori Hughes 6-3 330
This guy has the measurable and athleticism to be drafted earlier but off-the-field issues will cause him to slip to the later rounds. He was originally a Tennessee Volunteer but got kicked off the team.

-Round 6 Virginia Tech OT Nick Benton 6-6 317
Becton has the requisite size, length and athleticism to be a valuable reserve at either left or right tackle.

Round 7 Western Michigan QB Alex Carder 6-2 225
Our next QB if or when Sanchez does not bounce back in 2013 is not in this draft. Carder’s is mobile, tough, relatively accurate, productive and can hold a clip board just as well as Tebow can.

After draft cap space is $9.00 Million.

    Depth Chart
    Offense
WR Braylon Edwards, Stephen Hill, Clyde Gates
    LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson

    RT Winston Justice, Nick Benton
TE Fred Davis, Jeff Cumberland, Konrad Reuland, Hayden Smith
WR Santonio Holmes, Jeremy Kerley, Jordan White
QB Mark Sanchez, Greg McElroy, Alex Carder
    FB Jerome Felton
RB Eddie Lacy, Bilal Powell, Joe McKnight

    Defense (43)
    LDE Muhammad Wilkerson, Tevita Finau
    LDT Sione Po'uha, Montori Hughes
    RDT Kenrick Ellis, Damon Harrison
    RDE Quinton Coples, Garrett McIntyre
    SLB Jarvis Jones, Lerentee McCray
    MLB David Harris, Nick Bellore
    WLB Demario Davis, Brandon Siler
LCB Darelle Revis, Phillip Adams, Aaron Berry
RCB Kyle Wilson, Jamar Taylor, Ellis Lankster
    SS Shawn Williams, Antonio Allen
    FS Kenny Vaccaro, Josh Bush

    Special Teams
    P Robert Malone
    K Nick Folk
    LS Tanner Purdum

Overall minimal changes as we set ourselves up for an extreme makeover in 2014 if we don’t get our desired results. Basically, next year will be everyone’s audition for the new GM.

So Sanchez will essentially be the uncontested starter?

I don't think Sanchez will restructure. I mean why would he? I don't see him ever getting the same contract as he currently has. I don't completely agree with the draft. I think we need to go offense both 2nd and 3rd round of the draft.

Just say no to restructuring Sanchez, only way Sanchez would EVER agree to restructure is if it meant more guarenteed money in more years. Tanny made that mistake, why repeat the same mistake?

In addition, in a 4-3, both Wilkerson and Coples would play the DT positions.

I don't think Vaccaro will last until the 2nd round, he's probably the best safety in the draft. I can't see Cro getting traded with the uncertainty with Revis. Pretty much the biggest unit that's overhauled in your offseason is the defensive backfield, which was our strong point. Whereas it's not enough change on offense.

Vacarro will go in the first, more than a handful of teams need a safety. way too many FA moves. I would just focus on resigning Landry and extending Revis. maybe sign a vet TE like Todd Heap and a QB like Matt Moore.

if we were to take a safety in the draft I would take Philip Thomas from Fresno State.

Yeah the draft is nice, but in free agency if we had 35 million in cap space I would hope we sign someone better, like a Matt Moore plus a bigger free agent
