When we do call a blitz, its still for the most part painful to watch since it develops very slowly. What I've noticed is that our blitzers try to fake out the O-lineman on their way to the QB, which I think is a huge mistake and causes them to lose their speed and momentum. You just don't have time to fake out a guy on the way to the QB, you need to commit to your move and go. I think you are told to attack a certain gap, and you basically need to go at that gap full speed. If someone is in your way just try as hard as you can to pplow through them. If all blitzers are attacking the gaps they are supposed to at full speed then either someones gap will be unblocked and you get the pressure you are looking for or the blitz gets picked up and well, props to the o-line if that happens. But I feel like the way we do it now we don't give ourselves much of a chance... instead of trusting your fellow LBer to do his part and trusting the scheme itself, it looks like each player is trying to make a play on his own and the result of that is 6 guys trying to fake out 5 guys and by the time one of them makes some progress the pass is already on its way.
my couch observation is this...... When I see 3 defenders at the line of scrimmaged stuffed, I know we did not blitz.... When I see 4 or more defenders stuffed at the line, I know we did.
when i see 5 defenders sent, they either flushed Hill out of the pocket, pressured him or sacked him.
Although it didn't result in a sack (nearly did), I think we were on the right track when Lowery came in off the edge like a kamikaze. But it never occurred again after that play.
I always noticed that they slow down and it drove me nuts watching I'v e seen it all season, and the other thing I hate watching is when our recievers catch the ball and instead of turning and running they turn stop and try to juke the whole team to get a touchdown, it drives me nuts. you turn and run and you break a tackle with your speed and momentum, use a fucking stiff arm or something!!!! goddamn!! I also dispise TJ and LW trying to hop scotch all over the place just run the goddamn rout and run it with some passion, run hard I dont get it!!
That was the most painful play to watch for me. Golden opportunity and Lowery just runs right past the QB. What the fuck was that? You could have flicked a rubber band at the QB and done more damage.
In the preseason and in the first few games the Jets had a good number of those Jailbreak blitz' on 3rd down where the whole front 7 is in the QB's face. What happened?
OK so watching the end of the Dallas Pitt game I saw something that our defense does not seem to do on the Blitz. We send 5 -6 guys straight in and try to fake out line men etc... I believe it was Dallas that had the ball Pitt blitzed sending 5 and they just mixed up the line by send three guys in different directions, some one got to Romo untouched. I believe SF pulled the same kind of blitz against us, confused the line and came in untouched. Just my 2 cents. PS Bob Sutton needs to go
I saw 5 sent when Devito and Harris shared the sack on Hill. That may have been the only time other than Hill running out of the pocket and completing a pass downfield.
One of our major problem with blitz is that, our containment is non-existent. I can understand the QB getting out of the pocket and running for life. But if that happens time after time when the front 7 do collapse the pocket, you have to question the technique of the OLBs.
Pace does a fine job, but no LB except for Harris is a pure 3-4 backer... they are all 4-3 DE transitions. I'd be nice to have one guy who knows the 3-4 OLB position coming out of college.
