OK, this is my second year in a $350 league, I won it last year. It's a 12 team league, and I ended up with the 6th pick. I'm quite happy with the way things turned out, and I really think theres only one otehr guy that has as solid a team. These are the rounds that I remember: --------------------------------------------------- 1) Steven Jackson - Was ranked #4 on my board, so I was more than happy to have him available at 6. 2) Brian Westbrook - I thought about going with a wide reciever, but somehow he was still available, plus they added a new rule in which receptions are worth 1 point, so this was a no-brainer. I locked up my top 2 runningbacks. 3) Terrel Owens - Was the 6th or 7th reciever on my list, but of my top ranked guys, only him and Anquan Boldin were left, and I really don't think Boldin will get many TD's this year with Edge in town. I was skeptical and hesitant to take TO, but I think it's great value half way through the third round. 4) Roy Williams - With my top two RB's already in place, it was time to get the recievers set, and I couldn't pass up this extremely talented young man who should have a terrific season with Mike Martz in town. 5) Andre Johnson - I could've gone QB here, with McNabb still on the board (Manning, Brady, Palmer, and Bulger were gone), but I felt the need to lock up my third starting reciever in three rounds. I really think he'll do better this year since they have Moulds to draw some attention and Jeb Putzier to demand attention in the middle of the field. 6) Chester Taylor - Again, I could have gone QB with Eli, Delholmme, And Warner still around, but how could I pass up the value of a Starting RB in round 6? Even if I don't use him, and I get screwed with a bad QB, two of the next three teams still only had one RB and 2 QB's, so I would probably be able to trade later on. 7) Daunte Culpepper - alot of people don't think he'll do well, but I do, he has a bunch of weapons and is back in his home state. I was quite pleased to still have him around considering the team in front of me needed a second quarterback. I think this is great value for the way the draft was going. 8) Tony Gonzalez - There was a bit of a TE run going on in the previous round, but there were still a bunch of great ones available (Chris Cooley, Jason Witten, Randy McMichael), but I decided to take the pretty-sure-thing and go with TG. Considering the point-per-reception rule added in, I'll take him over any of the other guys without question. 9) Troy Williamson - With Koren Robinson recently departed, he should be their #1 guy, and I'll take a teams #1 reciever in the eigth round any day of the week, even if it is with Brad Johnson at QB. I like this pick because when one of my other guys has a bye week I won't be hesitant to put him in there. 10) David Carr - I still needed a second QB and he was the best option. He has been a bit of a dissappointment, but should have a little better year, and I won't be afraid to put him in as a spot starter, especially with Andre Johnson already on my team. 11- 20) I forget the order: Vernon Davis ( Alex Smith's only target), Billy Volek (last remaining actually starting for their team), Vernand Morency (Dominic Davis is already banged up), Brandon Stokely (if something happens to Harrison or Wayne he is a great option), Jay Feely (leading scorer in the NFL last year was like the 10th kicker taken), Ryan Longwell, Indianapolis Defense (shutouts/10 and under points/TDs are the only thing that count in this league, so Indy is a good choice), Dallas Defense, Priest Holmes ( I momentarily forgot that Jerious Norwood was still around and the guy after me picked him) ------------------------------------------------------------------ QB: Daunte Culpepper, David Carr, Billy Volek RB: Steven Jackson, Brian Westbrook, Chester Taylor, Vernand Morency, Priest Holmes WR: TO, Roy Williams, Andre Johnson, Troy Williamson, Brandon Stokely TE: Tony Gonzalez, Vernon Davis K: Jay Feeley, Ryan Longwell D/ST: Indy, Dallas
No complaints here. I like it a lot. How can you not pick TO? If he's on the field, he'll make big plays without question. This is either the best or 2nd best team I've seen so far.
Yea, the more time goes on since the draft I'm questioning my over-patience on taking one. It's a bit too high of the risk for potentially no reward at all. But, if worst comes to worst, I'll try to offload Chester Taylor or Brian Westbrook and a reciever or TE to pick up another QB. Only time will tell, but I've got my fingers crossed.
QB - Culpepper - B / Possible A RB - Jackson / Westbrook / Taylor - B+ WR - Owens / Williams / Johnson / Williamson - B / Possible A+ TE - Gonzalez / Davis - C+ / Possible B+ PK - Feeley / Longwell - B+ DEF - Indy / Dallas - B Overall, a very solid team in my opinion. That's assuming that Owens doesn't ruin your WR's, and that Culpepper stays healthy. Good luck...
