This is where I think the Jets are going this year. If I was drafting a team this is who I would draft. I honestly think the whole QB talk with the Jets is smokescreen to potentialy get a team like the Raiders or Cards to trade up with us so I don't see us taking one of the big QB's this year. Rome wasn't built in a day. I am hoping for Brady Quinn next year. First Round #4 Mario Williams DE North Carolina State, one of the 2 best defensive players in the draft. A beast and Abe's replacement. Maybe not the popular pick but a need. #29 Marcus McNeil OT Auburn, could play either the right or left Second Round #35 Bobby Carpenter OLB , The Ohio State University, would excel in the 3-4 Third Round #71 Ryan Cook C New Mexico, can play multiple positions and has a great work ethic. #97 Kevin Boothe G Cornell, small school prospect that dominated the Ivy League. Good size and smart player Fourth Round #103 Barry Cofield DT Northwestern, might be the type of player we can use as he can play the DE in the 3-4 or the DT in the 4-3 #117 Devin Aromashadu WR Auburn, One dimensional but with 4.35 speed he provides smething we haven't had in a long time...... A deep threat Fifth Round #138 David Pittman CB Northwestern St. , Mangini is a DB guy Pittman with some coaching could be a nice player. Sixth Round Quinton Ganther RB Utah, good catching the ball out the backfield. Played in a bizrre offense at Utah but I've seen him play and I like the way he plays and is very strong. Seventh Round Brian Iwuh OLB/S Colorado, A true tweener, too small to play OLB but not fast enough for Safety but is a playmaker and will literally knock the crap out of you.
Hey if McNeil falls that far there should be no hesitation to take him at all. I guess Tampa Bay could go for Eric Winston though rather than McNeil. I'd be thrilled with this draft. I also love how there is no Laurence Maroney, Lendale White, Matt Leinart, Vince Young or Jay Cutler in this draft.
Rich, I like it, but there are 2 minor issues I have with it 1. Where is the 3-4 NT? 2. With Ellis, Von Ohauffen, and the selection of Mario Williams (as well as potentially Dewayne) an additional 3-4 DE seems like overkill. Besides for that its quite good.
I'm guessing our defense would be.. Ellis_____Robertson_____Kimo Williams___Vilma___Hobson___Carpenter That would be absolutely sick, even if it is overkill with the linebackers.
I was thinking maybe Babatunde Oshinowo as a our big NT but I liked going with the 2 OL in round three where I see Oshinowo going therfore I went with Cofield who is listed as a DT but can play a few positions on the line and maybe even some LB. He is too small to be a NT but if Oshinowo happened to be there at the time we are up in then 4th he's my guy. It is possible that we take Oshinowo at 3 and then Boothe in the 4th. I just like the versatilty of Cofield. Another possibilty is LeKevin Smith who might be nice mid-round NT steal if he can stay healthy.
1. Matt Leinart 1. Lawrence Maroney 2. Nick Mangold 3. Ryan O'Callaghan 4. Domata Peko-DT-Michigan State 4. Will Blackmon-WR/CB-Boston College 5. Zach Streif-OT-Northwestern 6. Mike Kudla-DE-Ohio State 7. Anthony Schliegel-ILB-Ohio State 7. Kelvin Chiasson-OG-Oklahoma Granted, it would take a stroke of luck for all of these guys to be available where I have us taking them, but that would be the perfect draft.
Round Pick # Player Position School 1 4 Matt Leinart QB USC 1 29 Nick Mangold C Ohio State 2 35 Marcus McNeil OT Auburn 3 71 Joseph Addai RB L.S.U. 3 97 Darryl Tapp DE Virginia Tech 4 103 Kevin Boothe OG Cornell 4 117 Marcus Maxey CB Miami (Fl) 5 138 Le Kevin Smith NT Nebraska 7 211 Clint Ingram OLB Oklahoma 7 217 Jeromey Clary OT Kansas St
no way addai drops to 71 & tapp to 97. If hell does freeze over and that happens I will cream my pants with excitement. Tapp, although undersized, has a non-stop motor. He reminds me of a David Pollack type. Not the biggest but he keeps going hard every play all game.
I like that draft, but I don't think we need an OLB as much after signing Kassell, so I'd rather White, Maroney, or Mangold at 29 and McNeil at 35 because there's a good shot he'll still be there.
