I'm not going make any type of trades. I'll just work with what we've got at this point. There's no doubt in my mind that Tanny will wheel and deal on draft day - that's what he does...but I'm not Mike Tannenbaum so I'll leave the trading up to him. Right now, this Jets team is looking like a playoff contender, so my picks are meant to be later in most rounds. I'm hoping that a lot of underclassmen enter this draft. The potential for a rookie cap in 2011 will sway some players out of school early. After reading this, you'll see it's pretty obvious what I've done with the very few picks that we have. BUILD THOSE LINES TANNENBAUM! First Round: Anthony Davis, Offensive Lineman, Rutgers 6'6 325 JUNIOR - Davis is just a mountain of a man. A flat out beast at tackle and/or guard. Plays with a mean streak. Versatile enough to start at any position on the offensive line except center. Eventual replacement for Damien Woody? Second Round: Marvin Austin, 3-4 Defensive End, North Carolina 6'3 305 JUNIOR - Austin is one of the most athletic defensive tackles that I have ever seen. Drafting him in the second is wishful thinking...if he has the combine I know that he can have, Austin will be a first rounder. Limited production makes him a second rounder right now. Tons of upside. Fourth Round: Antonio Coleman, 3-4 OLB, Auburn, 6'3 261 SENIOR - Coleman is a big time pass rusher that's flying up my board. All-SEC defensive end. Has a nose for the ball. Constantly making plays in the backfield. Not the best timed speed in the world, but he's incredibly quick off the edge. Right behind Carlos Dunlap and Eric Norwood as the best pass rusher in the SEC. Already shown signs of success when playing some linebacker this season. Sixth Round: Andrew Jackson, Offensive Guard, Fresno State 6'5 295 JUNIOR - Jackson is one of the best run blockers out west. Anchor of an offensive line that is paving the way for one of the nation's best run offenses. Three year starter that's gotten better over each season. Injury problems could push him into the later rounds, but when healthy, he's on the same level as former Bulldog Logan Mankins.
I'm just going by an article that was posted yesterday - we have 4 picks RIGHT NOW. The pick given up for Kevin O'Connell is a conditional pick...more than likely it will be our 7th rounder.
Wow his name is Andrew Jackson? Nice name. I don't know much about these guys (or college football in general) but if the guy you predicted for our 7th round pick is constantly getting double-teamed like Jenkins, wouldn't he go much higher?
Troup's job as a nose tackle is to draw double teams so UCF's linebackers can make plays. and Fresno's coach Pat Hill has been calling Andrew Jackson "The President" since he's been on campus.
Well I know why he's supposed to, but if he's so dominant as to force the defense to double team him, shouldn't he go higher?
I like the direction you went and I hope that's Tannenbaum's focus. How do you compare to Jackson to Slausson? I have no problem with the idea but I think it seems we might be better suited trying to find the next Stuckey to play the slot rather than taking offensive guards in the 6th round two years in a row.
Solid like the hometown tackle probably will take over RT and our tackles will be set for years. Ive seen Morgan go in the first but its a good pick id take him or Vince O or Corey Wootton any 3-4 DE will be good.
Andrew Jackson isn't really a developmental guy. I believe he could start very soon in the NFL. Pat Hill has NFL experience and he coaches his linemen the right way. Hill is a former offensive lineman, so he takes pride in coaching these guys up. Fresno rams the ball down their opponent's throat game in and game out and Jackson is the best lineman on the team. Ryan Mathews stats would still be good without him, but he wouldn't be the nation's leading rusher. 741 yards in 5 games! There's more than one guard spot and we need depth behind both Moore and Faneca. I'd rather pick up a proven slot receiver in free agency.
Nice Mock.........you added lots of Beef. I really like Davis and he's a little more versatile on the line than my Trent Williams pick in my mock. Williams has played LT and looked very average, he's an NFL Right tackle. I can't believe Williams will get drafted in the Top 15 or better to be a RT. Davis moved to LT and has played well and his excellent play at Guard shows he can play RT. Morgan is an exciting player. I think Morgan is going to be a High Risk/reward player in the NFL. There won't be much middle ground....a big success or a bust. He has the motor and desire to be special. I don't know too much about Jackson, but Fresno's run game is very dynamic. You and I have discussed Mathew's play. We all know the Jets still have their 1, 2, 6 picks. The Lito Sheppard deal was a 2 part trade. The Jets already gave the Eagles a pick in 2009. There is a conditional pick for 2010......a 2nd-4th......based on playing time and signing Lito by March. Lito being injuryed has already reduced the playing time. IMO, Lito is a one and done player, the Jets aren't going to give him a 10 mill bonus due in March...a condition in the trade. So the Jets won't owe the Eagles any more picks. I read somewhere this trade was similar trade that New Orleans sucked the Jets into with Vilma. The Jets can let Lito hit FA, re-up him and owe the Eagles zip. The Jets picked up O'Connell for a conditional 7th rd pick.....details are sketchy and it isn't certain the Jets will owe the Pat's a pick. So the Jets still may have 5 picks after all is said and done.....1,2,4,6 & 7
If Kevin Walter doesn't get resigned by the Texans, I would love to see us make a play for him in free agency. If not, Steve Breaston would fit the slot role well also. If we want to take a different route and pick up a bigger wide receiver, Vincent Jackson and Maurice Stovall both hit the free agency market as well.
I love Derrick Morgan. I hope the Jets get him, I think he could be dangerous on this defense with Ryan calling shots. Good mock, I like it. I've been a fan for a while of beefing up the lines.
Kevin Walter would be awesome as the slot receiver but he's the #2 with the Texans not sure he'd accept a slot receiver role Steve Breaston would be an interesting guy though
I like the beef too. The pressure is on --- we really have to "HIT IT" again w/our picks in the 1st & 2nd round. Not to split hairs here, but can Derrick Morgan hold his own as a 3-4 DE at 275lbs? Typically, these guys are 295lbs & up.
Trenches. Good draft. Don't know any of them well but if we're drafting BFA (Best Fatguy Available)through seven rounds, I'm happy.
Walter is not a slot receiver. If we ahd a player like him Cotch would move to the Slot in three receiver sets.
