at this point with the WR market dried up we either need to wait it out till Braylon takes down his asking price

    OR

Ive said it in numerous threads but we should bring in Zach Miller and Manny Lawson.

we obviously need another db body or two.

But Miller would open up the run and pass game and equates to numerous options with splitting Keller out wide.

Lawson never caught on in SF but is someone worth investing a go at if we plan on anyone other than a DB sacking the QB.

I think Braylon will come back on a 1 yr deal and hit the market again next year

Zach Miller would be a pretty incredible signing

2 TEs sets would work GREAT for the Jets... with two real TEs, not Keller and Hartsock (thanks god he signed with the Panthers)

I wasn't planning to come back until I knew I wouldn't spend half my life on this board again, but I was talking to Coach K and he told me about this thread. I've been talking to posters via IM this week about how much I hated the Nnamdi pursuit. I wanted to go after Edwards (which, given his market and asking price was not the right time), grab Manny Lawson, and get a nickel CB to allow Wilson a chance to start with the mental game catching up to his physical skills.

I don't like the other options at receiver. I don't like Cro enough in the system for the money he'd be paid, particularly with regard to his physicality.

Given the weakness of the WR market, especially the woefully underperforming Malcom Floyd (I'm still not sure how anyone who has watched him could want him on a market-driven multi-year contract when he's 30 and struggles to get open even in single coverage), I'd hate to spend simply to spend at the position. Floyd and Jones aren't as good as Cotchery, flat out. If Jerricho is back to full health, he's better than either option.

When Coach K brought up the Zach Miller possibility, I was IMMEDIATELY intrigued. Fit him in at the same money as Floyd and it's a no-brainer. He brings much more to the table than Keller and allows us to open up our passing game. If we can't have Edwards, it's foolish to hope for anyone else at the price of Miller.

Where did all this Zach Miller stuff come from?

Not saying he's not good, because he is.. but I doubt the team is looking for another TE to match will Keller. Unless I missed something?

The more I've thought about this, the more I'm on board Zach Miller. If he and Floyd cost similar money, bring in Miller, and make Keller a receiving tight end. That's what the Patriots do, for one. An extra big body out there would help running the ball.

We still would need to find someone to stretch the field. But Miller is a better player than Keller is, and I would take a hard look at him.

theres nothing wrong with two good recieving TE's

miller is overall better a much stronger slightly athletic version of keller

seemed to work well for the Pats

plus we run double tights ALL the time cept hartsock was never a threat

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

    I agree with this completely.

If they can swing it, I'd go for it.

Said this in the FA thread but other names that would fit in this mold.

    TE
    Todd Heap
    Kevin Boss

How about Ernie Sims for OLB former 1st round pick hasn't done much in career but fast as hell if I remember might be able to do something in our system.

43 OLB, he'd be a ILB with the Jets, which obviously they have no use for...

Do you guys think we will be ok with Cotchery as the #2 if we don't get a new WR/TE?

Marks USC buddy Patrick Turner has nice height/speed (6'5" 220lbs) and chemistry with Mark from their USC days

then there is this kid the 5th rounder and the 7th rounder Scotty McKnight and Santonio

    Then there is Keller

Is this ok? I think not

Cotchery isn't an ideal #2. Neither are Floyd or Jones. Floyd offers the most physically, but his best season would be Cotchery's 5th best. He's older than Jerricho, and like I said, he's struggled mightily even in a passing offense in which double teams have allowed him copious single coverage.

The problem is this idea that we HAVE to sign a WR, so we should be content with the best we can get. Miller would aid the passing game MUCH more, and we could target WR as a need in the 2012 draft. I'd rather have Braylon, but Miller would be an outstanding pickup.

How is Zach Miller's run blocking? He is an excellent pass-catching TE, but the lack of interest league-wide is surprising.

He's a fantastic blocker. The lack of interest is in part due to his limited pass catching, but those limitations have primarily come from the QBs throwing him the ball.
