I used to think that 1983 was the Jets most disappointing season ever Super Bowl expectations, Jets poised to be the most popular team in NYC. But tough losses to teams we should've beaten, a QB who took a big step backwards and team chemistry which turned to shit killed us. THe season ends with two miserable losses 1999 was also bad, but largely a result of injuries and ended on a high note But 2011 has to be the worst ever. Expectations were higher than ever and the "success" of the past two seasons gave support to some talking that has more than come back to bite us in the ass It takes the disappointment of 1983 to a higher, more painful level. Everything that could go bad this season went bad. And to have it end in the worst possible way, with a team whose aura and history we must overcome, win the VLT out of nowhere, after we came close for the past two seasons, was the dagger to the heart.
Look we're all pissed off about this year, but there's been way to many threads about this. Stop sulking, pick your fucking head up and look forward to next year. The Giants won the Super Bowl, be happy that Brady didn't come out on top -- he's the real enemy. I like where we stand in the draft, hopefully we'll be able to fill our holes and come back stronger than ever next year. I know it's hard to keep saying "there's always next year", but you have to be optimistic. I won't argue that it was a bad year, but I moved on already.
Parcells pissed me off that year when he REFUSED to go to Ray Lucas until it was too late. Why he thought Rick Mirer was an NFL QB remains a mystery to this day....
2008 was worse ... 8-3 with Favre, and huge victories over Tennessee and the Pats. No Brady, and we STILL manage to blow the division and don't even qualify for the playoffs. A disaster.
This board is for venting. You have to do that a lot with the Jets Its great that you're past it. The number of "threads about this" shows that the majority of fans are not getting past it so easy As for optimism, maybe we'll be able to express some after the draft and free agency, but the Jets would do well to to shut up and fly under the radar in all respects next season
I agree. 2 Straight AFC Championship games, Finally gonna get over the hump onto the super bowl, Then we lose 3 in a row and have our city rival beat us to end our season and watch them never lose again and win the super bowl. Same Old Shit.
To me it was worse. I really had high hopes with Favre, and when Brady got hurt in week one the door was wide open for us. we totally shit the bed to close out the season. The Dolphins were 4-6 and they won the division even after we were 8-3. Ridiculous. Notice how the Texans finally won the division when Peyton went down this year? That was supposed to be us in 2008.
I'm a young fan, but Doug Brien and Favre felt a lot worse. This year I never felt confident in the team like the past two 2.
Yep. I was at the opening day game when Vinny went down. It was gut wrenching. I still say the '98 team was the best Jets team I've ever seen. They wrecked the Falcons that year (although it was with a backup QB if I remember), who they would have played in the SB if they had gotten past Denver. I can still see the Jets going up 10-0 in the AFCCG. It was the one and only time I ever thought they were going to go to the SB. Sadly, they collapsed big time in the second half. I remember the Jets being SB favorites for the one and only time in my life in '99, and it ending in week 1. Just brutal. Still the most painful season ever. It still feels like they are cursed.
The worst part of that is Parcells refusing to go to Ray Lucas until it was too late to salvage any type of Playoff push. I mean in what universe does he think that Rick Mirer is an NFL QB?
Totally disagree. What about the injuries made it easier? The Jets had their best year since the SB winning season in '98 and came soooo close. We were favorites to win the AFC in '99 and it got ripped away almost instantly. It was excruciating.
This year doesn't even come close to the disappointment of other years. 86 was by far the worst. From 10-1 to 10-6 to up by 10 points vs Cleveland with 4 minutes to go to end of season. That is disappointment. When Mangold got hurt and the Jets lost to Oakland, I knew it was not going to be the Jets season. When did they ever look championship caliber this year? The whole lock out and 2 week free agency with 19 free agent coming after two seasons prior with final 4 restrictions hamstrung this franchise. This was not the year. Never felt it was.
