I had a feeling he would go somewhere he can start. Along with Fatukasi, this loss hurts. We need another good tackle, given Becton's injury history. I still think Jets go Ekwonu/Neal at 4 if KT is gone, and if KT is there, draft a tackle 2nd/3d round.
Agreeā¦given Bectons lack of durability over his first two years I think we definitely need a strong third tackle
I liked Fatukasi, and Moses was big for us last year. (He's big any year). I'm rather surprised both were allowed to walk.
Becton missed 2 games in their entirety in 2020. He took less than 50% of the snaps in 3 others. I can see that as concerning. I don't think last seasons injury contributes to the "injury prone" label. It was a knee that got rolled up on. Could have happened to anyone. But that still leaves his rookie year and the time he missed So one of the guys we are really going to depend on for the upcoming season is Elijah Moore. Moore missed 6 games his rookie year due to injury. After his first missed game he played against Atlanta and didn't have a single catch on 2 targets. I'm not sure if that was the effect of an injury or not. In any event, he is a guy that was definitely injury prone in his rookie year. Michael Carter is another guy that missed games due to injury. 3 to be exact. There should be some concern there as well. The point I'm trying to make is that there is just as good a chance of Moore and Carter missing time next season as there is Becton. Both Moore and Carter are huge parts of our offense. Why is no one concerned about those guy? Or concerned to the extent they are about Becton? If Moore misses time this coming season should we be talking about trading him while there is still value? Becton deserves another shot to prove he can stay on the field. His rookie season was spotty. I don't count last year. If the guy misses the same type of time he did his rookie year then I would be seriously concerned and apply the injury prone label to him. Can someone tell me what his injury history was in college? I'd like to know Moore's as well.
Well I thinks it's safe to say Becton came into the league with no real injury history. I'm really hoping that his rookie year was atypical wirh respects to injuries and last year was just a fluke. I believe he deserves a other shot to prove he can stay healthy and in shape. If he can't do that this year, then the Jets should look to move on from him.
The Jets see how he is working we do not. I agree he deserves a shot but if the coaches are seeing things differently or his attitude is off I can see them moving on. I think the way they draft will tell us what they are thinking about Becton.
Moore and Carter weigh between 180-200 lbs. Becton weighs as much as both of them combined. If Moore and Carter continue to miss games they'll rightly get the injury prone label as well. Regardless though, the biggest difference is that Becton has not only gotten hurt but spends more time on the shelf when hurt directly because of his weight. He had a foot and knee injury last year, those are never minor things when they happen to someone who weighs as much as Becton. The history of really heavy guys who start racking up lower body injuries is really bad.
Size isn't a concern with Moore and Carter? Both guys don't look like they can take a bunch of hits without getting hurt.
Training for college and the combine while finishing school is a lot different than training for the NFL. Part of being a pro is proper training in the off-season to last 17 games and multiple years.
He got 3 years/15 million, 5.5 guaranteed, with an out after 1 year. Basically he got a raise. Good for him.
I can't say what the CS thinks, but they've putout signals that they're not happy with him. Speaking for myself, and of course admittedly not knowing the entire situation, my concerns are based upon these factors/issues: 1. He was hurt several times and missed 3 games his rookie year. 2. He didn't play entire games, apparently because he needed to come out for breathers, and/or smaller injuries. 3. He showed up at OTAs out of shape, overweight. 4. He struggled a LOT against both our own "D" and the defenses he faced before he got hurt. 5. He's freakishly big and people like that tend to succumb to wear and tear more easily and take longer to recover. 6. IDK this for sure, but my hunch is that he has struggled, and will continue to, with the zone blocking system. I'll say that I was enthusiastic when we drafted him, and his almost zero injury history in college seemed to counter the potential for injury. He was/is amazingly athletic for such a big guy. But I've soured on him because of the above, and because of the alleged comments attributed to him that indicate that he hasn't really bought into being a 100% committed full time football player. Now, if Becton can bounce back, regardless of whatever issues he has and become the force that he could be, I'd be the first to admit I was wrong and be thrilled. But I just don't think that's going to happen. If that's "hate" I guess I'm a hater.
Moore and Carter both returned to play from their injuries on schedule. The fact that Becton still hasn't is a major concern. And the issue with Becton isn't just his size, it's coupled with the concern that maybe his size limits him in playing a zone blocking scheme, as well as his ability to recover from injury.
