Today the jets signed Benjamin Braden and Chris Bordelon as tackles. Braden played at Michigan as both left tackle and guard. He has a good size and reportedly is well worth the signing. Bordelon came from Nichols State where he played left tackle. They add backups to our OL and now maybe some of "you' will stop complaining about lack of OL. They will back up Brandon Shell and Ben Ijalarai at tackle. More beef!
I didn't complain about not drafting OL in a weak draft, but let's not pretend that signing 2 UDFA will solve Jets OL probrem.
It's not the greatest news but it's not unheard of that UDFA can be diamonds in the rough. Hope one or both can be solid starters or more likely good depth.
Finding another Brandon Moore or Austin Howard would be huge for this team right now.. I'm still holding out some hope for Qvale too..
From 2009-2010 we had arguably the best OL of that decade which carried us to back to back AFC title games..and people here were STILL complaining about the OL.. It's safe to say there are folks who will never stop complaining about the OL. They'd rather be 2 deep of pro bowlers at every single spot along the OL than have a single legit presence at a skill position..I'm not joking either..
..... ..... .............. That doesn't sound so bad. Awesome Pro bowl line this year, then you trade the older guy at each OL position. Mid- to late 1st for your LT, assuming he's 29 or older (if not, he could be worth more). Late 1st or early 2nd for your C. Mid Second for your RT. Third rounders at worst for your pro bowl guards..... That's 5 good picks, plus the ones you already have...and you can spend them all on QBs, RBs, WRs, TEs.....even FBs, if it makes you happy. So yeah, I'd sign up for 10 pro bowl O-linemen. Where's the sign-up sheet?
Never said it was... But look where the game is going...other than the Cowboys..who were able to build their OL w. the benefit of an already young/strong skill group...who DOES have an OL worth writing home about?? OL is feast or famine in today's NFL. A clean pocket & adequate pass pro is all that really matters. The game is won & lost on the boundary now
In a salary cap era when the game is won & lost on the boundary...that'd be an utter disaster.. 1990's northeast football is dead.
The odds are it wouldn't work out as neatly as you describe it. They could just as easily all be in their early 20s, or other teams not be willing to part with the good picks you describe. We've already seen the situation with the Jets where they had too much cap space tied up in the OL and we had ZERO playmakers, so couldn't really take advantage of that topflight OL. We now have too much cap space tied up on the DL, and have mediocrity (still) at OLB. It's insane.
You think the particulars of my scenario of divesting a team of 5 extra pro bowl offensive linemen is unrealistic? Hmm. It's not any more unrealistic than having 10 pro bowl offensive linemen at the same time.
Who do we have as a backup at center? Dozier? How is that guy still on the team? I think we should sign Jon Toth https://wildcatbluenation.com/2017/...-player-jon-toth-has-yet-to-sign-with-a-team/
The teams never been more successful then when it's had a good OL. Those teams didn't win it all, but had the pieces too. Skill position effectiveness is greatly reduced when there's no time to get them the ball and no holes to hit. Not saying it should dominate the cap, but neither should the DL. That makes less sense the the OL, especially if the idea of having a dominant OL is a thing of the past..
While our o line is young and unknown I'm quietly optimistic about them and their possible performance
