Don't know if this was posted but I didn't see it anywhere. That seems like an awfully low number of receptions and I'll be surprised if he doesn't exceed it. Would like to hear this from a few other sources but this is the first report I've seen with actual specific details on the incentives tied to the conditional pick.
55 catches in 12 games is the equivalent of 74 catches for the season. I'm assuming the clause was 55 catches with the Jets of course. I think he's got a shot at 47 catches in the last 10 games so he probably hits the mark to make the pick a 2nd.
Im not sure if I like this. I mean Sanchez is forcing passes after passes to him. We need Cotch back, maybe then we'll limit Braylon to 40 at most in the next 10 games. Then again, if more catches mean more victories, I wouldn't mind it. It would jump from a third to a second. So we'll keep the 3rd in that case. Anyways, Sanchez needs to distribute much more and avoid throwing to covered BE. Take a shot when he's open but not when he is double covered to say the least.
The problem is other than Edwards/Cotchery I don't think Sanchez is comfortable with any of our WRs and his connection with Keller has been real off this season.
Wow that is a really low number. Hopefully Cotch comes back soon so he can take some of the catches away from edwards.
And does anyone think that if the jets are out of contention down the stretch they bench edwards to stop the draft pick upgrade?
They won't "bench" Edwards, but certainly they'll keep an eye on his catch count because I'm sure not even Tanny REALLY wants to give up a 2nd. I can see Edwards getting some kind of "injury" that keeps him out of the last several games if his count is close to the threshold..
WOW... And when the trade was done, media claimed it was "unlikely To reach" numbers.... COME ON!!!!!
That's what I was thinking........ week 17 may be a "vacation day" for Braylon Edwards. He may not like it but....... :shit:
Anyone want to bet he'll catch 54? C'mon.. we are not that stupid... unless we are in the playoff hunt come week 16/17 he won't get the ball thrown his way!
The Jets will keep him in the offense if they think they can realistically resign him at the end of the season. A happy Braylon Edwards on the Jets is much more important than the difference between a 2nd and 3rd round draft pick. They won't shut him down to keep the pick from promoting, partciularly given that every catch he makes helps Sanchez develop also. It's just not going to happen.
So we gave up some decent in house talent and a possible #2 pick to get a guy for 12 games? I guess that would have been a good deal if we were the SB team that Rex told us we were.
I would guess that it has to be with the Jets. Or at least hope it is. That trade would be terrible if it's combined.
^I doubt if a players previous production is included in a trade clause. However, I do see BE getting 55 catches with the Jets regardless of the clause.
