When Coles got the ball on the left side of the field, he had daylight and could've taken it all the way... but the design of the play is to simply keep the ball alive apparently, and not for a single player to take a chance.

You could see that he had space to run, and in addition the colts player just kind of gave up and was acting like the play was over... I think we were closer to making that trick play a reality than anyone thought. Watch the film. Kind of sucked initially when watching the game because the camera angle switched to an almost level view of the field.

I noticed that as well, but was not sure if there were other Colts up field. It seemed like once Coles got the ball inside the 30, he of all people could beat the remianing 2 defenders and head for the endzone

I think maybe thats why Coles was lying on the ground in pain after the game......he realized he could have taken it in himself..............

I was wondering why he didn?t take off running ? I just figured its got to be confusing as hell with all the spinning around and lateraling you probably lose touch with where you are. You should have tried to follow that play 15 Bud Lights in?:drunk:

I was thinking the same exact thing, but you never know the camera angle didnt show any colts, but it looked like Leon Washington had blocked his man and another Jet was in a position to block, i think it was about 30 yards or a little more to the endzone.I was hoping he would make a break for it too, but ah well. 2-2 is not bad, considering I thought we would be 1-3 at this point.

I saw it too, soon as he caught the lateral I jumped up cuz I expected him to turn on the Jets and run right by the inattentive defender.

and that wouldve been play of the year if not decade maybe even more lol

Man I can't even imagine the chaos for the players on the field during such a play. I'm sure that there's a million thoughts popping in and out of your head, evade this guy, lateral to that guy, watch this guy about to tackle me, don't forward lateral, etc, etc.

To be honest, I'm surprised that the play got as far downfield as it did. I must admit, once I saw Mangold touch the ball I figured the end was near- the thought of a 300 lb lineman marching the remaining 30 yards downfield was not a promising one...

At the point where McCareins has it, there are about 4 unblocked Colts defenders in the upper-right area of the field. By the time Coles gets it and reaches the 30, he would have had to beat 4 guys in that area. It was a wild play, and it had little hope of going the distance at that point.

It was CBS's fault for not pulling the camera back further so we could see more of the field, if you were not at the game you had no idea how much "daylight" he had. It looked like he had some space but the colts had at least 4 defenders inside the 30 waiting to take down any Jet with the ball.

And wasn't Mangold an illegal man downfield?

Once the pass is completed, anyone can go downfield.

Dude, maybe you should write Coles a strongly worded e-mail, telling him he should have tried to run into the end zone...

what must he have been thinking?!?

On a chaotic play like that it it hard to second guess anyone. All I was thinking at the time was, when is Coles going to take it to the hole?

The second time Coles got the ball in that last play, I thought he could have ran right up the middle into the endzone. But ofcoruse, CBS didn't show you how far away the team was from the endzone (But I think they were on the 20?)

I do not think anyone on this board doubts Coles, we are just saying what might have been. Coles is tough and I am sure if he saw daylight he would have run for it, remember the NE England game where he broke tackles to get into the endzone.I will never doubt thast man.Ever since he was drafted I have loved his toughness.
Nobody is blaming him or doubting him, we are just hoping that he is well enough to play the next game.

My favorite part of that play was when Chad Pennington had the ball like 40 yards down the field and was running with it. The first time watching it, it wasn't as funny as it was scary. But the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th it was hilarious. Also, just a thought. When the play ended, it was a lateral to Neon Leon and the ball hit his shoulder and he dropped it. If he had the ball in his hands anything could have happened.

i think at the end if leon would have held on the ball, i think the jets would have scored, b/c that side of the field was wide open

Judging at the camera angle Coles had plenty of room. He was at the 30 when he threw it. He couldve got to the 20 or the 15. Coles is no dummy. If no one was in front of him he wouldve taken it all the way. So there had to be a few Colts in his path. All in all it was a great effort but was too much of a long shot.

I was there I did think Coles had the room to score in which the place would've been torn down but... if he had took that chance and got tackled, everybody would've said "Why didn't he pitch it".

At least we kept moving the ball in the right direction. I once, a super long time ago, saw a Viking Defensive lineman pick up a fumble a run 70 yards or so into their own end zone. I am not sure, but I think it counted as a TD for the opposing team instead of a safety.
