I will admit that there are a lot of trades, so I question how realistic this is. However with the Jets cap situation and clear need to rebuild I think Mangini/Tannenbaum are going to be quite agreesive with trades. Also while quite controversial, with Curtis and apparently Chad back in the fold for 2006, I really don't know how big of a priority QB and RB will be. Depth isn't a major issue at RB with Blaylock, Houston, and Askew on the roster. At QB I think the more likely route is a cheap vet (Ramsey?) is more likely to compete with Chad than invest $20 million in a Leinart or Cutler. While it is a major gamble, if Chad and/or Curti bottom out, by filling in at the other spots, there will at least be a much better supporting cast put in place for a selection of a Brady Quinn or Adrian Peterson if the worst case scenario occurs. I'm really starting to think that this is the plan Mangini/Tannenbaum have in mind. Trades: Pick #4 to Bills for picks #8 and #42 (Bills trade up for D'Brick) Picks #8 and #102 to Rams for picks #11 and #46 (Rams trade up for Huff) John Abraham to Denver for pick #22 Jets 6th Rounder and a conditional 2007 pick (up to 4th round) for Patrick Ramsey Also Jets gain 3rd and 4th rounders via free agent compensation. Draft 1A. Vernon Davis TE (11). I know TE isn't the most immediate need that comes to mind, but an absolute freak of an athlete. 1B. Manny Lawson DE/LB (22). Another freak of an athlete. Will need to put on some weight, but has the potential to be a dominate pass rusher on the next level. 2A. Antonio Cromartie CB (35). Coming off of an ACL injury, but performed very well in the combine. Would be a top 10 pick if he was healthy 2B. Ryan O'Callaghan OT (42). An absolute monster at OT 2C. Davin Joseph OG (46). Fills a pressing need at guard with Kendall likely gone. 3A. Greg Esslinger C. The future replacement for Kevin Mawae. Or maybe starter right off the bat with cap issues. 3B. Babatunde Oshinowo DT. At 6'2" 320, a good fit as a NT for a 3-4 defense. 4A. Stanley McClover DE/LB. Another pass rusher for a 3-4 D. LB depth needs to be improved for a conversion to the D. 4B. Marques Colston WR. Hofstra product is a monster at 6'4" 230 pounds. 5. Jason Hatcher DE. Small school prospect who would make a nice 3-4 DE. I realize a lot of people will not like it because it does not address QB and RB, but with an explosive TE such as Davis and 3 new linemen, the Jets will have a much better support system in place. Drafting Lawson, McClover, and Hatcher help expediate a move to the 3-4. Those 3 plus Cromartie add a ton of potential to an already young defense.
I would love to double drop and still be at 11. You listed Davis at 8, not sure if he would be at 11 but heck its a mock.
Err. I meant 11. I'll admit Davis at #11 might be a bit of a stretch, but I don't think its as bad of one. Here's how I currently would project the top 10 1. Texans: Bush 2. Saints: Leinart 3. Titans: Cutler 4. Bills: D'Brickashaw (from Jets) 5. Packers: Mario Williams 6. 49ers: A.J. Hawk 7. Raiders: Vince Young 8. Rams: Michael Huff (from Bills via Jets) 9. Lions: Tamba Hali 10. Cardinals: Winston Justice or Lendale White I know that TE has been mentioned as a possibility for the Rams, Lions, and Cardinals. However the Rams secondary is disgraceful and Huff would give them the best DB in the draft. Can the Lions justify another 1st rounder on an offensive skill position? For Arizona with a pair of 100 catch receivers I personally think they are better off with a lesser TE (not enough passes for Davis, Fitz, and Boldin).
Vernon Davis. If we get him I dont even care what the other picks are, then its a successful draft  Disagree with some picks but it dosent matter because we just drafted Vernon Davis  Im starting to think we wont even address QB this year. So if we draft Davis this year, we can go RB by committee, and then draft a RB in the first next year, a Peterson, Lynch, Broussard, or a Bush (Michael, that is). EDIT: also I think trading down more than once is a bit unlikely, but hey, anythings possible
I think those trades are a bit unrealistic but who knows... I don't like the idea of drafting two DE/LB's without drafting a mid round QB or RB. I'm not keen on the idea of Brooks, Peninngton and Ramsey being our QB's. Honestly if we're going to take a chance on a young QB that has failed I want McNown... just me though
Love the mock draft. The only change I would make is to trade 2B and 3A to move up. I think that Eric Winston (the guy to move up for) would help our team much more than O'Callihan & Eslinger.
I can understand the concern, there. I'll admit I might have been more open to it if I though a Charlie Whitehurst would still be there in round 4. I agree about McCown over a Ramsey, however sicne McCown's a FA I think he's going to get a lot more money than what Ramsey's making and what the Jets could afford.
That'd be a great draft, but I don't see the Rams giving up a second rounder to get Huff when he will probably be there at 11.
Maybe I'm thinking of someone else, but I thought the Lions had a big enough hole in the secondary that they'd consider Huff at #9 if there.
