How many of you know that we & Cleve played the 1st MNF ever. The game was in Cleve & JWN was the QB & we lost
Yes ABC pointed that out several times in their last broadcast... We can pretend we didn't know though, if it makes you feel smarter or something.
Yes, the first game and last were Jets losses with the same outcome. Another bit of trivia, the Jets played the Dolphins in 1980 in the only MNF game ever that didn't use any announcers....
Well were you? Actually that was the reason for the post was to make all those that were unawate that we & Cleve played in the 1st MNF ever
Did you realize that the first Jets game I saw live was against Cleveland was in Oct of 91, and we beat them 17-14?
That was wild..I remember that being a very big deal. It was really unusual to watch. Nowadays, muting the TV is standard practice. I just remember back then, it felt like we were landing on the moon.
Yeah it was funny, they promoted the heck out of it and actually got really good ratings. You think they would have learned something....
That was actually a Saturday afternoon NBC game, dubbed the "Silent Bowl". Jets beat Miami that day to close out the 4-12 1980 season. I was 3, but I did know we played the first MNF game at Cleveland. It was the first year of the AFL-NFL merger, and ABC wanted a classic NFL team, Cleveland, with Joe and the Jets carrying the New York market.
i did, and im young. only cause i watch alot of football and remember when the Jets played the Pats in the last MNF on ABC and they did a history of the show. we also lost the first and last MNF. awesome lol
Really, I thought I remember it being on MNF. I know it was Ohlmeyers gimic which is maybe why I thought it was on Monday; must of been after he jetted from ABC for NBC....
That game was on a Saturday afternoon - the last weekend of the year, both the Jets and Miami were out of the playoffs and the whole 'no announcer' thing I personally found quite annoying at the time (I was only 9). The Jets won by seven points, Darrell Ray returned an INT for a TD and Bob Griese came in to mop up for Miami in what would be his final NFL appearance... I wasn't around for the Jets-Browns MNF game but I do know that the Jets secondary was called for like 6 or 7 pass interferance calls and Homer Jones ran back the second half kickoff for a TD for Cleveland......
