Lots of talk about our coaching, our RB, our QB, our OLine, and the lack of a pass rush. Yes, those are recurring themes that hinder this team. To me though, last night's loss all comes down to mistakes, and we made way too many. Holmes trips and doesn't score a TD on the first drive Folk misses a chip shot Wilson drops an INT Cro drops an INT Mo Wilkerson can't recover fumble on botched snap Sanchez calls early TO McKnight muffs punt and Strickland can't recover fumble Ball hits Greene in the facemask and ricochets to a Pats defender for INT Nobody covers Branch in no huddle Smith falls down in coverage - TD Gronkowski Maybin can't wrap up Brady - TD Gronkowski Pick 6 That's off the top of my head. Winning football teams don't make that many mistakes. We sucked. We got our asses handed to us. Clean that shit up and I like our chances.
How about the botched coverage on ochocinco that resulted in a big play. Why did the jets not waste a time out and get the proper coverage instead of calling someone from across the field. Did they think brady wouldnt see the lack of coverage? That also happened after a timeout or stoppage I think and at least 3 times on the night.
I think we need consistency on both sides of the ball. We have talent, just not consistency. Coaching consistency is a must too. We came out throwing, Greene was averaging 5.7 ypc at half. We should have just run it down their throats, and we didnt. It was obvious that the o-line was not having a good night, so while we were only down a score, we should have been sticking to what we do best. We dont need to change our gameplan every week for pass happy to run happy. When we do what we do best, which is run to set up the play action down the field. We are very effective on offense. We need to get back to that. On defense, I don't understand why we played so much zone when NE went into the hurry up. Someone should have called time out and made the adjustments. Obviously nobody knew where they were going, and it was total confusion. The Patriots didn't be us soundly, we beat ourselves.
You're right. It should say "Mulligan stepping on the field to play offense" as one of the major mistakes.
Agreed. I always make fun of people who use the 'we beat ourselves card,' but we really didn't help ourselves out at all last night. The first drive was killer, with Holmes falling down and getting no points.
