Minicamp Report: Quarterback update By: Dan Leberfeld Date: Jun 16, 2006 Quarterback Chad Pennington’s third practice of minicamp was nondescript. Signal-caller Patrick Ramsey took the first team reps, as per the rotation system. Pennington didn’t see a lot of action. Pennington’s best throw might have been a 30-yard tight spiral to the corner of the end zone. The pass was incomplete, but had a lot of velocity on it. Pennington’s surgical shoulder doesn’t seem to be hurting his arm strength. As for Ramsey, considered the top contender for Pennington’s starting quarterback job, he was very inconsistent. “I think there were some good play and bad plays for me,” said Ramsey. Ramsey threw a number of incompletion. But in all fairness, he hasn’t been throwing to the Jets receivers for long, so they aren’t on the same page yet. But on a few plays, he did display “happy feet” when feeling pressure. This was a criticism of him during his time with the Washington Redskins. The two best throws of practice might have been by rookie Kellen Clemens. He threw a rocket to wideout Brad Smith on a crossing route, and a perfect fade to wide receiver Laveranues Coles in the corner of the end zone. http://jets.scout.com/2/540210.html Good news for Pennington Has anyone heard anyone say anything bad about Clemens yet?
Great find  But Pennington did throw a 50 yard pass to Coles but the pass was only 30 and Coles run 20 of the 50.
its great to see Kellen impressing the CS. As for Ramsey, we all knew he wasent the best quarterback in the world comming in but maybe with some time he can be a step above where he was in washington and be a decent starter if Penny dont come back 100%. All and all i'm very excited about this years QB competition. Cant wait to see how it all unfolds at the end of TC and the season.
While the media keeps talking about all of Clemens good throws, I did read somewhere that he was throwing lots of incompletions and was having some trouble. I'm not saying he is horrible, but I don't think he is outperforming anyone as of yet.
I agree. There has been VERY little mention of him, but I did see an article stating that he was playing with a swagger in his step. I see no reason why he can't challenge for the #2 spot.
Good point. I'd like to see him here, and as a #2. Make Clemmes #3 for the time being, and send Ramsey packing,he sucks!! Bollywood earned his spot.
