We've seen losing and dysfunction no doubt, we've been through it all as Jets fans. But just getting the ball snapped in time has been an issue this year.

I disagree. Last year they couldn't make it work with Hardman and Cook, so they let them go to AFC contenders, the places they wanted to go. This year it's the same with Williams.

These talented players come here and instead of sticking with each other to fix issues, and god forbid, win some games, Douglas just rewards them by sending them to a good team instead.

Like the Montreal Expos or some shit

Douglas spoke to the media for the first time all season yesterday. He said this about Williams “[Williams] Not being part being of OTAs, not being able to be part of a majority of training camp, just could never really get that synched up,”

But they knew he tore his ACL last season and was going to miss time in the offseason. It wasn't a secret. So he knows that, gives him $10 mill anyway, and then uses that as an excuse to dump him off to greener pastures

    Yeah there’s that

But also, I get that line of thinking in week 1, or 2, or 3. We’re halfway through the season now. That’s a bullshit excuse…he’s not a rookie trying to learn the NFL, he’s an experienced veteran receiver…I’m just not buying that missing training camp is still an issue 9 weeks into the season…do they not practice every fucking week?

You’re overrating these players though. Dalvin Cook didn’t get a single touch with Baltimore last year after being trash here. He was a free agent all year until Jerry Jones panicked.

Hardman is a career jag. We should’ve tried putting him in the field, but did getting rid of him for a late round pick really hurt? We missed out on 14 catches the rest of the way…

Reading we are actually still on the hook for the $6m salary hit next year sounds pretty meh as far as under-the-hood trade optics go.

I mean you couldn't get that picked up on the other end?

There was that whole game winning catch in the superbowl thing...

I don't think Mike Williams sucks btw, I think he's pretty good. I think he's better than Allen Lazard. But ya know Lazard is a ..."favorite JAG" of the guy throwing the ball

btw - Douglas wasted over $20 million between the 3 players that you describe as JAGs

I was waiting for the SB catch comment lol. Yeah he really jumped over three guys to catch that one. So goofy to qualify him as a good receiver or a bad player to let go based on that.

Cook and Hardman were obviously bad signings regardless of what our dopey GM spent on them.

I don’t think Williams is a jag but he was less than a year off a torn ACL injury by opening day, with only two thousand yard years in his career and was largely known as a one trick pony deep threat his entire career.

No disagreement from me in that they used him wrong and he obviously wasn’t working in the offense. But he was useless to us. Get rid of him.

Cook and Hardman were largely useless players the day they were signed. (FYI I thought Cook was a great signing at the team but he was obviously washed).

Ahh, so the fact Mike never got up so speed ultimately means that Rodgers cannot learn Ben's play-book? I don't think so.

As far as the trade, this is not a bad trade, even though I would probably keep him just in case, but 5th round pick is a solid value for him. Mike might turn things around eventually, but so far he provided very little, even without Lazard. He might turn it around, but it's been half a season, he is coming off ACL, and still not really contributing. There is a lot of risk there.

Another factor aside from coming off ACL and lack of production, is that we invested a top 3d round pick in Corley and Lazard is our #3, who is back in 3 weeks, so we are talking about #4 guy, with a high pick as #5.Finally, we hedged our bets a little bit. The season effectively may be over in three days, and a 5th round pick next year could be useful.

    Overall, it does make sense.

I agree. I mean I do think it is taking him time to come off ACL and get to where he was, but the bottom line is - he hasn't produced, and he might not be the same until next year. Piits is taking a risk there, actually, but 5th round pick is not a high price to pay, but something meaningful. From our side effectively we traded Mike+3d for Davante+5th. It's a good trade.

I never said he can’t, of course he can. Will he? Of course not.

lol Hardman barely saw the field on a team he knows the playbook for. That play he ran for the SB, anyone could have been in that spot, he didn’t contribute a ton when he went back. He is what he is, a gadget player for which they don’t trust enough to run routes in the regular offense (and still doesn’t).

Yessir. 19 snaps in the game for 24% of the offensive snaps. But yeah he’s a super star because of that play. :D

Yeah let’s talk shit about the guy who caught the winning TD in the Super Bowl as our team misses the playoffs for the 20th year in a row or whatever the fuck

Is he a top 100 receiver? He tied for 253rd in receptions last year with tightend Elijah Higgins. He’s currently 208th tied with some guy name Bub Means and Cowboys fullback Hunter Luepke.

I think we survived letting him go for little.

where did anyone make the claim he’s a “super star” as you mocked. He’s better than Gipson, whom they buried him behind.

he’s not as good as Mike Williams, the topic of this thread, another guy they signed, didn’t use, and gave away for nothing

But yeah “we’ve survived”… thriving right now clearly

Saleh hasn’t survived here though and Joe Douglas won’t, in part because of decisions like this

Its not so much a question of losing these players hurting us as much as signing them hurt us. When Hardman caught the winning TD we were the team paying him to do it. The same will be said if/when Williams breaks out in Pitt. Were paying his salary to play for another team.

Also, IMO, Williams isn't washed. It really feels like he either didn't like Rodgers, or he didn't like it here period. I have no doubt he will eventually make an impact in Pitt.

Because he’s a jag and you’re mad we traded him “within the conference,” and keep trying to hype it as a bad trade because he caught a pass in the SB with no one within ten yards of him.

It’s just an all around silly argument. The decision to get rid of Mecole Hardman after signing him to a bad contract the least the franchise should be concerned with when analyzing whether to get rid of Douglas.

And I firmly believe they should, but this whole line of thinking that you’re upset that they got rid of Dalvin Cook, Mecole Hardman and Mike Williams is ridiculous.

I don't think it was that big a deal sending Cook and Hardman away, although IIRC the reason given was to let those players compete on a contender, which struck me as really weak. The Williams thing may work out if they actually think they can get production out of Corley and Gipson, but trading him to the Steelers was just dumb. I guess they were the highest bidder, but their bid better have been significantly higher than the next team that wasn't in line to compete directly for a playoff spot and hadn't already owned the season head to head matchup.
