Can anyone explain his philosophy to us? I know he was solely responsible for the passing game in SF but, Shannahans offense is known for a zone read and heavy RB emphasis. However, his brother in Green Bay runs an excellent developing and continues route tree passing game. Where does he fall between them?
this. everyone is just assuming we gonna do what shanny jr is doing, am more interested in what big brother in GB is doing. and that the two lafleurs and xerxes get together and decide what to do at jets qb position
Shanahan denied LaFleur the ability to go coach with his brother in GB so LaFleur must be a bright mind if Shanahan denied him the opportunity to leave
I wonder if Mike will also bring his brother Peter along. He was one hell of a leader in his day, really knew how to get the most out of guys with minimal talent.
Javonte Williams from NC will almost certainly be a Jet if he's available in the third if LaFleur is in fact the coordinator. He's a less dynamic version of Dalvin Cook and tailor made for this system. As far as LaFleur is concerned, I think it's a bit overstated that Shanahan's system is some run heavy thing by choice. It's been that way by necessity because Garroppolo sucks and can't throw the ball downfield. If you look at Shanahan's time in Atlanta, 2016 for example, they threw the ball 100+ more times than they ran it. It was the reverse in the 2018 SB run with Garroppolo and the 49ers. They hid him. Expect a lot of play action and motion. Definitely love the one cut zone running scheme. I just hope big Becton can keep up with it and they still run some power sets behind him.
Either LaFleur ends up sucking or he's good and likely leaves to be a head coach in 2-3 years and we're stuck looking for a new OC.
Any thread about a Jet's OC, past or present, living or dead, is likely to turn into a smoking barrel fire before it's done.
Some teams make the playoffs. Some teams play in conference championships games. Two make the Super Bowl. We hire new coaches and enjoy the draft. Let everyone enjoy this while it's not on fire.
Lafleur might turn to run the ball a lot once he sees how turnover prone Darnold is. Jets better draft Najee Harris to carry that workload.
Just pointing out that the last two Jet's OC's that lasted more than 2 seasons were Schotty and Hackett and just about everybody hated both of them before they were done.
If our offense is so damn good in two years that other teams want to hire the guy that ran it, we are in fantastic shape.
