He didn't come out and say it, but love him or hate him...we all know this guy has top contacts in the organization. First caller of the day said that Schottenheimer was as big a problem as Mangini and should be gone. Francesa got very defensive and said something like... "How do you know he was even calling the plays?" "How do you know he was even being allowed to run his offense, to run the stuff he wanted?" Seems to me more and more stuff seems to leak out about Mangini being a control freak not allowing others to do their jobs.
Yes but what he also indicated is that someone like Ryan would allow him to run the O & he also mentioned that keeping Shotty means they have a btter chance of keeping BF since he said Favre would not accept learning another new O
There seem to be more leaks coming out on this. If you think about it, Mangini's press conferences might have been telling too. He never once backed off on the decisions to do some of those cockamamie offensive calls that were made. He'd always say things like, "We decided to throw it three times because we thought it would give us our best chances of success at the time...." etc., etc., ba-blah, ba-blah. True, a HC is not going to throw his OC under the bus, but with Mangini he always seemed emphatic about the calls, as if he had a hand in them or (what some are surmising now), he had complete control over them and made the calls himself. There was also a comment recently by Schottenheimer himself (sorry, I cqnnot remember the exact words), in which he hinted that "some of the calls were not what he had in mind," or something to that effect.
I can believe that... I remember Schotty's first year...I thought he actually got the offense to greatly overachieve. He did some interesting things and found creative ways to get the balls to our playmakers. I haven't seen much of that the past 2 seasons. Was it Mangini's fault? I really don't know, but I would be willing to give Schotty another season to prove himself.
How do you know he was a doormat? Maybe he spoke his mind and Mangini reduced his role as punishment?
Like I said before there is so much going on behind close doors that we just do know about. I know be default most of you need to be negative but the truth is most of you are just clueless
I shared the story already about how Schottenheimer would be stuck on the phone arguing with Mangini after every game during dinner. (Again, I can't quote the source, so don't ask.) As I've been saying for the past few weeks, maybe, just maybe, Brian Schottenheimer was consistently overruled by Mangini. If so, we should know who was at fault by the time the clock strikes 2010. Personally, I think it's worth a shot to see if the problem ever was Mangini. Who knows? Maybe we actually have a genius in Brian Schottenheimer. Would we rather he goes somewhere else and makes a great career for himself? Or is it worth taking a chance for one year?
I'm willing to give Schotty another year to prove himself...i just didn't want him to be the Head Coach.
That is not necessarily a jab at Mangini. Guess who wanted the playbook changed, less shifts, more straight sets, less plays.....hmmmmm.....
what was he supposed to do? I'm assuming that the head coach has the final say in all matters, so even if he called another play, who is to say Mangini didn't change it to what he wanted?
for those of us who don't believe the HC over rules the OC just look at the Bills game, the OC called for a run and DJ had him call a passing play, so if Mangerine was over ruling BS then I say let's give him one more year, he did come in hear with a conservative reputation, only time will tell.
I don't see how Mangini could of called the plays, he was too busy crossing his arms and chewing his gum. I hardly even saw him talk. Also, maybe schott needs to get back to the field. 2006 he was on the sidelines and a lot better.
