Lots of smoke regarding Mike Evans and his contract negotiations. Sounds like his agent put a deadline of September 9th before cutting them off. They would benefit from trading him if they can't agree on a deal or watch him walk next season without receiving any compensation.
I think he fits perfectly with Wilson as the jump ball guy, just not sure we want to pay up for him. Rather wait for Adams if there is any thought it might be possibility at the deadline but an Evans in the hand is better than an Adams in the bush.

Trade deadline is going to be very interesting, that's for sure.

Obviously would take him in a heartbeat but two things... we'd have to hope TB accepts a 3rd and Evans is looking for Cooper Kupp money which is 3/80 and that's just not happening. I wouldn't pay him more than 3/60 a year and that clearly won't get it done.

Agreed on the financials, 3/80 is way too steep for a 30yo WR. Even 3/60 is a lot, not sure what Adams would cost but probably comparable.

Adams would take more in both respects. If we trade for him than LV is eating a ton of money so we'd have to sweeten the pot. If we trade for Evans the Buccs are eating no money and we'd be handing Evans a new deal so they'd have to accept less in theory.

Based on this it looks like they paid him additional 20 mil bonus just now: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/las-vegas-raiders/davante-adams-14463/
"2023 Roster Bonus: $20M (fully guaranteed, treated as signing bonus)". So, suppose we trade for him right now, he will only cost us 6 mil this year and 17.5 mil next year. Everything else Raiders already paid him. And after that we don't owe him anything and no dead cap. Basically 12 mil a year for 2 years and that's it. That is CHEAP. Raiders paid A LOT upfront and gave up 1st and 2nd to get him. It will take a lot of draft capital to get him. We are probably looking at 2025 1st and 2nd, since we cannot include next year's 1st or 2nd due to Rodgers trade. Heck, we might end up doing it, and be like Rams - without good picks for years.

With Evans though we might just get him for a 3d 2024 or 2nd 2025. At 30 years old, and demanding a large contract, plus not on the same level as Hill and Adams, he cannot cost a 1st rounder at this stage IMO. Seems more realistic than getting Adams. I think we need to root against the Bucks. If they lose a few and still don't have a new deal with Evans, this might get very very real.

Both guys are on the wrong side of 30 and would cost draft picks. We would have to be really struggling on offense for me to want to trade for either.

I get the age thing. But 30 is not that old and we’re in win now mode with a two year window. Evans has never had less than 1K yards in a season I don’t think he’s gonna fall off a cliff at 30 especially playing with Wilson and Rodgers on a team with a (theoretically) strong run game.

Yea this is where I’m at. Evans is going to be significantly cheaper. Adams would be a fun story but he’d cost a ton based off the Raiders being stupid and desperate a few years ago.

True, we would have to see how offense functions before giving up draft capital and CAP/money. But with Evans, if we can get him on a 2 year deal (3d optional) and say a 3d round pick, the timeline may be perfect with Rodgers before Evans declines. We don't have a #2 WR now, and Lazard is what he is at this point: a good #3. He played with HOF QB for years and I don't expect him to be any better. Same with Hardman really, who seems to have lost #3 spot to old Cobb. Evans would really be perfect right now for us.

I mean imagine an injury to GW just now. We will have inferior WRs than what GB had last year, which Rodgers was complaining about. We wouldn't even have a true #2. Evans would transform this team I think.

We most likely won't have a #1 pick next draft so the thought of losing a 3 scares me. I get wanting to load up and go for it but there has to be life after Rodgers. I'm very torn.

It'll take more than a 3 to land Evans maybe a 2 in 2025. Douglas alluded to an upcoming trade.

With Evans in the fold the Jets offense would go from very good to elite. The heck with life after Rodgers. Let's get to the dance this season.

    Go Jets!

Probably need to make an effort to get him. Jets are pretty weak at WR after Wilson, Evans would sure that up quite a bit. If a third gets it done, I think its a no brainer.

JD is really going to have to earn his money this upcoming offseason. They're going all-in for the next couple of years, which means you really need to hit on your late rounders. Jets are projected to have nine picks in 2024, most of which on Day 3. Gotta hit on some of those.

Evans has never finished a season without 1,000 years. He’s a beast

You’d be against a third round pick for an elite WR because he doesn’t play OL?

Listen, it's a 3d round pick, probably (hopefully) end of a 3d. We have a chance to get a guy who can still be very good for 3 years at a premium position. What have some of the 3d round picks netted us recently? Ruckert, Ashton Davis, Zuniga, Polite, Edoga, Shepherd, Alex Stewart, Jordan Jenkins, Lornzo Mouldin, etc....

So, I don't think losing 3d is much of a worry when you can get Evans for 3 good years.
