I just want to give Michael Carter some love. His stats are not eye-popping but when you watch the film he is doing all the little things. He will make a yard or two out of nothing, catch a key pass, and more importantly make some key blocks. BreeceHall is getting all the recognition and rightfully so but let's give some props to MC as well.
I love both Hall and MC. They both appear to be selfless team players that don't care about individual stats just team success. MC could have been really pissed the Jets drafted Hall. He was setup to be the main Rb and have a huge year then the Jets drafted Hall. Instead he welcomed Hall and did all he could to help him acclimate into the Jets. MC has made some big plays this year. The catch on 1st and 20 against the Steelers on the 4th quarter was huge. He always seems to make the first guy miss. Both are great compliments. There might be times where Hall is out and we need MC to carry this team. Really glad we got both. MC was a steal in round 4 last year. Kudos to the FO for giving the offense a ton of explosive playmakers. We went from having no playmakers on offense to a problem of having so many playmakers that we have rotate many in to the game.
Anybody who is usually the smallest guy on the field while also successfully pass blocking gets love from me. For the first time in at least a decade, we have a locker room full of guys who are easy to cheer for because they do their jobs and do it well.
LaFleur is doing a great job of utilizing both MC1 and Hall in the same formation, it's very difficult to defend.
Carter has been good at what he’s been asked to do and has much softer hands than Hall/is obviously a better pass blocker. The kid really needs to work on his vision though. It’s not like they don’t run block as well or as hard for Hall by coincidence. Hall finds the holes a bit better than Carter has.
Believe it or not Hall/Carter may turn out even better. I loved McNeil - he was the meal ticket but Hall/Carter have more overall speed. McNeil was fast but did not have blazing speed - he had the shifty moves. Hector was similar to a lesser degree but definitely tough.
Carter is a scrappy little player. No hesitation in taking on big linebackers in pass protection... always fighting for extra yardage on runs. Nice pass catching ability as well. @Cman65 and I would gush over him in the game threads last season. The stats may not reflect it... but Carter may be even better this year overall.
MC just slips tackles too. He will Turn a 2 yard run into a 4 yard run. Just does all the little things you need.
I am a big fan of Carter though. He really does make the first guy miss on so many runs. Love when they are both in the backfield
I think with the emergence of the Beast, MC1 realized he now has a partner in the backfield and its not solely up to him to carry the load. MC1 is playing his role as a 1st down/ short yardage guy while Beast gets the longer yards. As long as both of them can coexist in the same backfield, we'll be able to run effectively.
You do not get through a season with one player. By being able to balance the load, LaFluer can make sure that no one player is over-utilized. To have TWO such talented backs most certainly is a mighty positive.
