Miami QB expects to miss '07 season Hyped freshman Marve sustained injuries in car crash Posted: Wednesday July 18, 2007 1:58PM; Updated: Wednesday July 18, 2007 1:58PM http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/football/ncaa/07/18/marve.injured.ap/index.html CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) -- Miami freshman quarterback Robert Marve expects to miss the 2007 season because of injuries sustained earlier this week in a car crash, his family said. "It's safe to say we're pretty much guaranteed that Robert will have a redshirt season," the quarterback's father, Eugene Marve, said in Tuesday's editions of The Tampa Tribune. "It's a setback, but the most important thing is he will overcome this injury." Marve broke a wrist, dislocated a ring finger and cut his left, non-throwing hand, the newspaper said, and the injuries were so severe that he nearly needed to have his pinkie finger amputated. "I don't care about not playing football this season," Marve told the newspaper. "All I want to do is heal and be functional on my own again." Marve and his family did not return phone messages left at their home Wednesday by The Associated Press. Marve was among three Miami players in the one-car crash; the others were sophomore linebacker Colin McCarthy and freshman receiver Jermaine McKenzie, who was driving Marve's 2007 Dodge Charger on Interstate 75 near Naples when he reportedly fell asleep and lost control around 12:05 a.m. Monday. The car rolled several times before coming to rest on its roof. "I'm happy to be alive," Marve said. McKenzie -- who was ticketed for careless driving -- broke a neck vertebrae in the crash and could miss anywhere from six to 12 weeks, relatives said. McCarthy apparently only had minor injuries. University officials have not released any details on the players' conditions. Marve was one of the most sought-after quarterbacks in the country last season, after leading Tampa Plant High to a state Class 4A championship. He set state records with 280 completions, 48 touchdowns and 4,380 passing yards as a senior, earning him Florida's "Mr. Football" award.
Robert Marve...one of the ugliest people I have ever seen. He sports the pretty sweet wannabe thug extremist whitey bowl-cut. Totally dominant. Totally brah.
You guys should see the pictures of the car, it's amazing that all three walked away without any life threatening injuries. Marve was going to to play some part in the offense this year had this event not occured, of that I'm fairly sure. He was in summer classes, and was being force fed the playbook while at school by the staff in hopes he'd be potentially ready if Wright/Freeman faltered. McKenzie's also likely getting a redshirt. The biggest loss for the Miami team from the crash would have been Colin McCarthy, who's probably the best Linebacker on the team right now.
