Since the SI cover jinx is really all about regression to the mean, this is actually a good thing. The "jinx" is because people or teams that end up on the cover tend to be doing unsually well, and since that is at least in part just luck, the luck (and hence doing well) ends after being on the cover. In this case the Mets are doing unsually poorly, so hopefully the same thing will happen, only in the opposite direction.
Jahn Maine is the token whitey in this one...and what's up El Duque's smile? Can somebody get OImar a tie? LOL!
Ahh, I guess you don't understand what "Melting Pot" means.... Either that or you just felt the need to make a racist remark. Good to see they are givin the Mets props though. Well deserved.
I know what melting pot means and I can see symbolism in photography... do you know what token means? Can you see it anywhere in this picture? Get a life dude...
How is it a racist remark? In that pic there is 4 Latinos, a black guy and a white guy. If there were 4 white dudes and 1 latino with the same caption, it still would not look like a "melting pot"
What other team in major league baseball has a latino GM, a black manager, and predominantly hispanic players?
Not just predominantly Hispanic, but Hispanic from 4 different countries plus Puerto Rico. It's not by chance that Chavez, Duque, and Perez were included instead of one of the 9 Dominicans or 8 Puerto Ricans on the 40 man roster.
Great. the Yankees starting line up: Posada-P.R. Cairo/Phelps- Venezuela/US Cano-D.R. Jeter- Bi-racial..Black and White A-Rod- Bi-Racial...Black and Latin Matsui-Japanese Cabrera-DR Abreu-Venezuela Damon-Bi-racial...White and Thai All teams are pretty diverse. it is silly for SI to single out just the Mets.
Name 1 minority GM the Mets have had before Omar.....<crickets> Name 1 minority Manager the Mets have had before Randolph....<crickets> Think before you post.
I'm pretty sure that Jim Duquette was "special". I don't know if that qualifies as a minority or not.
Just pointing out that being "Latino" does not indicate uniformity of nationality or background. I don't necessarily believe the Mets are any more or less multinational than any other team, but I do believe the Mets are unique in baseball in that they have non-whites in both the GM and manager positions (although I have not checked). I assume that's the biggest reason why they chose the Mets for this feature.
