The DP hurts, but I'm glad LH wasn't bunting with two strikes. To restate the obvious, this lineup sucks. Pretty surprising that it's averaging two runs an inning, although Snell does suck. I still don't get why easily the best hitter in the lineup is batting fifth. If you have one quality hitter, shouldn't you bat him in the top four?
Nice to see Reed-Valdez-Schneider do the job, but Livan's at bat ticks me off. First of all, it is inexcusable to me how pitchers don't know how to bunt, and secondly, it was stupid to take the bunt off anyway - what were the chances that Hernandez would do anything good swinging away? Edit: obviously Yisman and I disagree about the bunt. I am no fan of it in general, but Hernandez has had 4 seasons with at least 10 sacrifices, so I would not have had him swing away.
Bunting with two strikes should not be done unless the guy cannot hit at all. LH is a .230 career hitter. Hell, he's a better hitter than Ramon Hernandez or Wilson Valdez. Why bunt with two strikes, especially if he's not a great bunter?
This is what you call having the wheels fall off. The key thing at this point is that the Mets have to win the next three games of this series.
