I would like to start a more positive thread about McKnight, considering the one every one is posting in was created for his immediate dismissal. I am just curious as to how much more he needs to do to:

1 Be considered worthy for some PT on the offensive side of the ball, and

2 When do the CS, or us as fans consider him a worthy and acceptable replacement of Brad Smith?

    My answers-

1 He or Powell need to put into the running scheme soon to create a spark with guys that can chnage the look we give.

2 I think his participation on D and his potential at kick returner will have him there before the end of the year.

1 Joe McKnight isn't built to be a workhorse (obviously). His future should include 3rd down and change-of-pace duties.

2 He should be our full-time kick returner, right now. Cro is too important to our defense to be put back there.

I agree with Vorrecht about #2.

McKnight needs to be utilized as a pass receiving back. However, in order for it not to be too predictable when he's in, he needs to get rushing touches.

Also, McKnight has filled in for Brad Smith nicely.

Im not all for starting Mcknight but its hard to say he isnt "built" to be an every down back. Mcknight is 5'11' 198, if he improves his work ethic (which it looks like he has been), he can be used in a Javid Best type of role (best is 5' 10" 199').

I think what your trying to say is he is not a prototypical running back, and his strengths do not fit the identity of our running game. Smash-Mouth football requires a "big-back" such a TJ was. If we continue with this pass happy BS, Mcknight could play well in that type of scheme.

McKnight is best utilized as a KR and situational player right now. Let him keep learning and building upon his success. Next year, LT is probably gone and he can step into the 3rd down/passing situations role.

although mcknight should never be in the same sentence as LT, jetaho is right... i expect him to get a little PT this year but once LT is gone he will be our speed back/ change of pace guy behind greene... could actually work out well if our o-line ever gets back on track

You could have at least thought of a catchy name which involves the word "Knight" or "Night."

Anyway, I hope he gets some time as RB, they need a change of pace and LT is too old to do it. LT is out there more to be a receiver and blocker, let's be honest. He'll probably only be getting a few carries a game. Maybe at the end of the year that may pick up, but for now that's all he is.

"McKnight in shining armor" sounded kind of cliche'. And a little on the panty wearing side.

Let's be honest...you just wanted your own thread. Good McNight Joe is an epic thread. No one cares how it was started. In fact, the massive neurological diarrhea it took to create the thread simply adds to its appeal.

It doesn't matter whether he deserves time on the offensive side of the ball right now. It matters when we NEED his contribution on the offensive side of the ball. If our current woes are strictly the fault of the line, bringing Joe in now won't do much good aside from using him in space. When he'll be NEEDED is late in the season either way. We've done well when we've been able to keep a back fresh for late season and postseason contributions.

Its funny. People said ridiculous things about Woodhead too. IMO you never know about a player until he gets the opportunity to play. Pundits and KIA's all dumped on McKnight last year and still can not give him the time of day.

He got on ESPN Top Plays. That's enough of a reason for me to start him.

This is hprobably a good analysis.

BTW- I have to admit that I haven't seen much of McNight as a return guy. Basically only the replays of his TD run. In that run I didn't see much. Essentially all he did was hit the hole and run 100 yds. He didn't look like he even had to make a cut. I don't know why some many Jets fans are so high on this guy based on this KO return. The TD wasn't a function of a great run, it was a function of GREAT blocking and scheme. If you or I possessed 4.4 speed, and ZERO athletic ability, WE could have run that KO back. THAT's how good the blocking was.

Now if there were other plays McNight has made that would excite Jet fans to want to give him more touches, then I'll stand corrected. But all he proved on this KO is that he can run fast straight ahead.

Because we are jets fans. Our mood swings are comprable to a teenage girl with a.d.d. who is prescribed to adderal and on her period.

With the line in the shape it's in they can use a guy back there who can be a little shifty, make a guy miss, gain some decent yardage on the cutback. Would like to give him a couple of series here and there to see if he can create a spark or two.

    Found this interesting

    MenoPause

Meno (Ancient Greek: Μένων) is a Socratic dialogue written by Plato. It attempts to determine the definition of virtue, or arete, meaning virtue in general, rather than particular virtues, such as justice or temperance.

Pause- may refer to a rest, hesitation, or temporary stop.

    Based on the transitive property

Meno-pause - a rest, hesitation, or temporary stop in moral excellence.

Quite simply McKnight has nothing he can offer us that LT cannot at this time. As long as LT is remaining healthy and performing (which he is) it would simply be silly to replace him with a less experienced back obviously more prone to fumbles.

Putting him in more as LT gets burnt out or once we actually get a big lead (ev entually) is fine and dandy, but its hard to replace LT with him right now
