Rich Cimini @RichCimini McGovern says the roster has done a "180" since 2020, saying the front office "got rid of all the bad apples." #Jets 2:23 PM · Sep 4, 2023 · 189.3K Views
If he’s dating it back to 2020 then I think some of the names are obvious. First and foremost Adam Gase, the worst head coaching hire in the history of the franchise. Le’Veon Bell, Robby Anderson also probably very high on the list.
McGovern was never a teammate of Jamal Adams, so I doubt he's referencing him. I was referring to Moore and Maye.
They did overlap in the offseason for a few months. McGovern signed with the Jets in early April of 2020 and Adams was traded at the end of July same year. Maybe enough time to make an impression
They didn't play together, but I think McGovern was signed in March and Adams was traded on July 24, I believe, so they probably met in OTAs, and he probably saw Adams negative comments regarding the Jets in the media.
I think the list is fairly long, but you guys have named the main culprits. Jamal Adams Le'Veon Bell Richie Chosen Denzel Mims Elijah Moore Perhaps one or more of the following players who were cut, traded, or allowed to leave via FA: Greg Van Rotten, Alex Lewis, Feeney, Marcus Maye, Shaq Lawson, Perriman, and Leonard Williams
Good call on Lewis. I think he was a bit of a unique personality. I'm not sure about poor Van Roten though. He may have literally been one of the worst performing guards ever in the history of the NFL but I feel like he was trying and a good teammate. He just for whatever reason went down the tubes performance wise.
Thanks. I was just throwing names out there of guys who were with the team and are no longer, who could possibly be whom McGovern was referring to.
I get just throwing out names, but I never heard anything negative about Leo…he always seemed like a pretty good guy
For a second, I thought he'd actually started calling himself Richie Chosen. That would not have surprised me.
You guys really gotta tighten up on these guesses. Robbie Anderson and Leonard Williams never even played with McGovern, so clearly not them. Also Leonard Williams, Jamal Adams (x2), and Marcus Maye were all voted by their teammates for the Curtis Martin team MVP award. Safe to say pretty well liked and respected in the locker room. (QW and CJ were awarded it the following 2 years). In terms of belly aching and loafing, Leveon Bell, Alex Lewis, Mims, Moore, and the entire Gase coaching staff all come to mind.
