The only big push free agent is Dalton Schultz, and to a lesser degree DJ Jones. Go cheap with Hayward as a vet to battle Echols and a draft pick. Trade Mims if you can get anything, and if the draft works out like this you have McGovern/Linderbaum/Duvernay-Tardif/Clark battle for the C and LG spots. McGovern could become a trade piece. Assume Shaq Lawson and Van Roten took pay cuts, released otherwise. UFA Keelan Cole (WR) Conor McDermott (OT) Dan Feeney (OG) Vinny Curry (DE) Folorunso Fatukasi (DT) Nathan Shepherd (DE) Jarrad Davis (LB) Marcus Maye (S) Sharrod Neasman (S)
I’m not really sure what to do about it to be honest. Mosley is the one who doesn’t really fit the defense, but with his guarantees it seems like he’s a lock to play. If they are primarily in Nickel, I’m not interested in making a big investment at LB just to take Quincy Williams off the field.
I really enjoy these mock offseasons. I enjoy them way more than the real seasons the Jets put together. I love getting a top center high in the draft, and I love getting a good tight end in free agency and another through the draft, but I want a better insurance policy than Flacco at QB going into next year. I think we are currently looking at a 50-50 proposition with Zach and if he fails I want a viable player to fill in for three or so years until we find a long-term solution.
Mariota will be an unrestricted free agent. You can debate whether he is viable for three years, but I would say he is.
There's something about grabbing a safety with our first pick that bothers me, but, I get the need. It could be that douche Adams left a bad taste.
i never criticize effort so the only comment i have is this....... the 2 firsts - safety and center. totally get the trade down scenario BUT these are not IMPACT positions. Yes they are important of course and we sure need a center but this team needs all pro potential at key positions like OT, LB, WR, and CB. a 4 win team has to come away from a first round with more than a center and safety. Second round or later would be fine.
They're not sexy picks, that's for sure, but both guys fill a major need for this team. I would probably prefer WR over Linderbaum in a trade down scenario but I wouldn't be that upset if he's the pick. I think most of us are a little off on drafting a safety early after the Jamal fiasco but Hamilton is a totally different player. If he hits his ceiling, he could give you everything Jamal did while being a potentially elite coverage safety. If Hamilton and Karlaftis are both there at 4, I would have a really hard time picking between those two.
Well done Max! Do you think Crowder would want to resign with this team? Also, I could see the Jets straight up cutting Shaq Lawson and GVR to get that extra 12M in cap space. Love the Schultz and Hayward signings! Schultz should be JD's first call IMO.
Love signing Schultz and drafting a rookie TE. I'd gladly give him the bag but I don't know if he comes here. I think we wind up with one of Njoku, Alie-Cox, or Hurst. I've also really warmed up to Hamilton. The dude is a playmaker and our defense desperately needs a FS with great range since they're insistent on running Cover 1 on every 3rd down.
agreed. The Jets are going to have the rare opportunity to have 2 top 10 picks. To come away with only a safety & center would be a big mistake. And I like Kyle Hamilton as a player. This draft is pass rusher heavy, have to take one of them with 1 of the top 10 picks, Hutchinson, Thibodeaux or Karlaftis or bust
Do not like that draft at all. Linderbaum is not worth it. We can get a serviceable center in round 3.
Crowder will go with whoever offers him the best contract, so it really just depends on that. He has been a good option when he doesn’t have to be the #1 guy, and he has been the key guy on almost all of LaFleur’s trick plays so I’d like to keep that piece of the offense. I hope the Jets make an effort to retain him.
I rather bite the bullet using a high draft pick on a S/C when we have multiple high picks. Much better than next year using our ONLY high pick on non-high value position. Like back in 2000 whenever where we used our 1st pick on 'Brick then our other 1st pick on Mangold. Paid off in spades.
I think they will but I could also see him being a little bitter after having to take a pay cut this year and not wanting to re-sign here. If these last few games have shown us anything, it's that we should try to keep as many capable WR's as possible. I would love to keep Crowder as our WR 3/4 for next year.
