As far as our offseason goes, I see us cutting CJ2K, cutting Harvin, signing a RB to replace CJ2K, and signing a #1 CB. I also think we'll go after a WR/OG, and obviously a veteran QB. 1. Tampa: Jameis Winston, QB, FSU 2. Tennessee: Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon 3. Jacksonville: Leonard Williams, DT, Oakland 4. Oakland: Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama 5. Washington: Randy Gregory, OLB, Nebraska And now our picks... 1 (6). Shane Ray, OLB, Mizzou Ray is the OLB pass-rushing threat we've been waiting for for so long. We've failed to address this in the past, and quite frankly, Ray is the BPA at this point. Since we know we're staying in a 3-4, Ray makes perfect sense here. 2 (5). Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Oklahoma (technically) I feel like half of this board would hate this pick, and the other half would love it. Nobody doubts his talent. It's all about his off-the-field concerns. I probably would not have made this pick if we had Rex as our HC, but the fact of the matter is he is arguably the best WR prospect in this class based on talent alone. If Bowles (and the rest of our coaching staff) can help him mature, we have a #1 WR on our hands. 3 (6). Cedric Ogbuhei, OT, Texas A&M Was a first round pick last year, and was a first round pick up until a few weeks ago when he tore his ACL. Absolute worst case scenario is he isn't able to play at all this year, which wouldn't be the end of the world for this team as we still have Giacomini. If Cedric is ready (and is good enough to start), Breno can move inside. We need offensive line help. 4 (6). Derron Smith, FS, Fresno State We need a FS to complement Pryor, as I think the Pryor at FS experiment failed. Smith had 7 INTs in 2013, and has natural ball-hawking ability. He's good in coverage, and I think he may shoot up the draft boards depending on his combine stats. For now, I see him as a late 3rd rounder/early 4th rounder. I think he (along with a vet CB) would really solidify our secondary, especially if Milliner/McDougle can stay healthy. 5 (6). Jake Ryan, ILB, Michigan Played like an All-American his sophomore year before tearing his ACL in spring practice the following year. Has been slowly playing like his 2012 self ever since. He's only been improving since the injury. He is a fiery leader who has a knack for the football and possesses that "it" playmaking factor. Think he would be a great fit to split time with Harris for one year before taking over the reigns full-time. 6 (6). Forfeited due to Percy Harvin trade 7 (6). Devin Gardner, WR, Michigan Played very well at WR his sophomore year before switching to QB after the injury to Denard Robinson. He has a ton of natural talent that I think can eventually translate to success at the WR position. He will require grooming, but you can't teach his size and athleticism. Is considered a leader in the Michigan locker-room, and is known for his great off-the-field personality. Depth chart: QB: Vet, Geno, Simms/vet/UDFA RB: Ivory, Powell, Spiller/similar vet FB: Connor/Bohanon WR: DGB, Decker, Kerley, Salad, Gardner, Powell.etc TE: Amaro, Cumberland, Sudfeld OT: Brick, Giacomini/Ogbuhei OG: Iupati/similar vet, Winters, Aboushi, Giacomini C: Mangold DL: Wilkerson, Richardson, Harrison, Ellis, Douzable/similar vet OLB: Ray, Babin, Coples, Reilly, IK ILB: Davis, Harris, Ryan, Bellore CB: Vet, Milliner, McDougle, Wilson, Walls FS: Smith/A2/Jarrett SS: Pryor
I like the Shane Ray Plan B pick (definitely BPA). I dont see Cedric Ogbuhei falling that far to our 3rd rounder. No way he gets out of the 2nd round, - much less past the 5 teams ahead of us in round 3. I like Jake Ryan, but I hear he has a tough time with pass coverage --- might as well stick with David Harris. And yes, ---- I hate the DGB pick.
Well, you definitely win the all-name, draft lol. There is a lot of talent there. I like Ryan more than most. I don't understand why Ryan was at the Shrine Game and Hull went to the Senior Bowl.
Well done. Im not a big shane ray fan, but DGB is 100% the guy i want in the 2nd (unless he tanks the interview process of course)
Just wanted to get my first 3 picks down in writing. Very early and it'll be hard to tell who goes where. I'm assuming Cooper, Winston, Gregory and Mariota are off the board..Cooper or Mariota have chances and would probably take either over my current projected first round pick. Rd.1 6th overall- Shane Ray, OLB, Missouri: Should provide the Pass Rusher we've missed out on for a long time. We'll be able to do create more pressure and force more turnovers with a stud OLB. Rd.2 37th overall- Marcus Peters, CB, Washington: Was dismissed from the team for behavioral issues. Was projected to be a first round pick. Talent is there, not ideal to bring potential headaches in with new Coaching Staff but I want the top corner who can contribute right away Rd.3 70th overall- Justin Hardy, WR, East Carolina: Impressed at the senior bowl. A bit undersized but FBS's career receptions leader. Great instincts and catch radius. Produced huge numbers without impressive QB play. Only a 3 round Mock but if we get these realistic 3 players I can see all of them becoming starters with bright futures and contributing right out of the gate. No OL but I'd attack the guards and tackles with alot of my remaining picks..would also look to target RB, S, ILB and a developmental QB at some point.
