Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan is the 2007 recipient of the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. The announcement was made live by John Unitas, Jr. from the Sports Legends Museum in Baltimore, Md., on Monday evening.

The Golden Arm Award is presented annually to the top senior quarterback by the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Foundation. The award acknowledges performance on the field, but it goes beyond completion percentage and touchdown strikes. The award values character, citizenship, integrity and those who honor the game.

Ryan has thrown for 4,258 yards and 28 touchdowns - both school records - in 13 games this season. The Exton, Pa., product has registered nine 300-yard passing games, including four games with more than 400 yards. Ryan captured ACC Player of the Year honors and gained American Football Coaches Association All-America honors.

The other finalists for the 2007 award were Hawaii's Colt Brennan, Louisville's Brian Brohm, Oregon's Dennis Dixon and Kentucky's Andre Woodson.

The 2007 recipient will be honored at an award ceremony on December 7, 2007 at the Tremont Grand Meeting & Banquet Facility, in downtown Baltimore, Maryland.

This prestigious award bears the name of who many refer to as the finest quarterback to ever play the game of football. Established in 1987, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award has previously honored 20 outstanding young men. Among the past recipients are Brady Quinn (2006), Matt Leinart (2005), Eli Manning (2004), Jason White (2003), Carson Palmer (2002) and David Carr (2001).

    Also

The Boston College football team has accepted an invitation to play in the Champs Sports Bowl on Dec. 28 at 5 p.m. in Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando. The game, which will be televised by ESPN, will feature the 10-3 Eagles vs. the 7-5 Michigan State Spartans from the Big Ten Conference.

I like Matt Ryan, but if Colt Brennan doesn't win the Heisman, this award should've been his.

Good, for a while it looked like he wasn't gonna get any awards. A little rough at the end, but Matty definitely deserves recognition for what he did for BC football this year.

Although its better than the dogshit bowls we normally get, this pisses me off more than anything. Look at ANY team in the top 18 and they all have some sort of prestigious bowl against a good opponent. You need to go all the way down to BYU at 19 to find someone in a worse bowl than this. I know i ranted alot about the bowl system in general in the other thread but this is more about BC getting dicked over.
What's become clear is that the ACC does not care about BC. Something should've been done by the ACC to ensure a good bowl for this team after what they accomplished this year (and what happened last year). What has been determined this year is that the best BC can do short of winning the ACC and getting the Orange by default is the Champs, the Peach and Gator will NEVER happen (and i don't want to hear about fans traveling better, its clear that bowls will nver take us no matter how well we travel). Despite being the most consistent performer across all sports, especially bball and fb, the ACC does not look out for this team as much as the Clemsons and FSU's of the conference.
What BC needs to do is leave the ACC. Go to the Big 10 or negotiate with PSU and ND (shuddering at the thought) to create some sort of new and improved Big East. It will never happen but its clear that BC is treated like the red headed step child of the ACC

nah...I think BC would've lost at least twice with Hawaii's schedule. Fresno, Boise, Washington, and even Nevada would give BC a tough game.

Matt Ryan doesn't play defense, and the past couple of games of the season, he was doing a nice job of putting his defense back on the field, by not moving the ball and turning it over.

you obviously don't know much about BC's defense. you also obviously don't know much about Matt Ryan. Anyone who has actually watched the games, BC fan or not, can tell you more than half of Ryan's INT's were not his fault, hard to look good when you put the ball on the receivers' hands and it just bounces off (especially when the bounce end up being caught by a DB). Its not all about the stat line buddy.

    Hawaii=the Phoenix Suns of CFB

How can you compare an NBA team to a college football team? Wow, they both score a lot of points.

The fact is Matt Ryan played well at beginning of the year, and at the end of the first VT game and he beat Clemson at the end of that game, but he still isn't a better COLLEGE QB than Colt Brennan.

its simple, the suns and the warriors are both teams that rely on a very fast paced, system-based offense to win games with little emphasis on D. Their mentality is that the best defense is a good offense.
I don't know were you think i said Matt Ryan is a better COLLEGE qb than Brennen because i would agree with you there. However, i think that the difference is purely circumstantial. If Matt Ryan played in a system such as Hawaii's against opponents such as Hawaii's i think he would be better than Brennen. I'm not saying that Brennen isn't a great QB, but comparing him to Ryan at this point in their careers would be like comparing apples and oranges, there are just too many different variables at work. We'll see how they do when both are playing on sundays because then you can make a much more accurate comparison

Maybe this more accurately describes my opinion: i believe that Matt Ryan is a more skilled/talented QB than Colt Brennen
