I wasn't a believer until a few minutes ago...this kid is for real. Matt Ryan just went on two heroic drives to lead BC back from a 10-point deficit against Virginia Tech. I'm fully behind him now, and even with Kellen Clemens on the Jets bench, I wouldn't mind the Jets bringing him in. I see shades of Peyton Manning, John Elway, and Tom Brady in this guy...his performance in the 4th quarter tonight was just amazing.
Why Matt Ryan proved nothing last night. You may have noticed Matt Ryan's inability to convert anything when he played against a respectable defense. He looked like an amateur for the first 95% of the game when the Hokies were actually rushing 4 linemen. It is not tremendously hard when the defense sits back and lets you have time to throw which is what happened in the last 5 minutes. In the big leagues teams are going to pressure him and he is going to continue to suck unless he has immaculate protection or is playing a subpar team such as Army, UMass, Bowling Green, or NC State. That's why I think last night proved to me that BC will have two losses by the end of the regular season. You think they can get by Miami's defense or Florida States defense? Not likely. You see Peyton Manning, I see Ryan Leaf.
They've gotten by GT's D and the "vaunted" VT defense. I've said it before and i'll say it again: Good teams find a way to win, good quarterbacks find a way to get it done. Matt Ryan played awful for 55 minutes but when it mattered most he played masterfully.
Sour grapes. Ryan was throwing to average at best WRs in the rain. His WRs/TEs let him down big time. On the odd occasion when we did run the ball , where was the VT D then? A W is a W , and if you can't can't accept what a great 2 drives that was you've gone down in my estimation.
That's a lame excuse. There was a few egregious drops but primarily the throws were poor caused by either pressure from the defense, crappy conditions or Matt Ryan pressing. The receivers did not cause those interceptions, that was a result of Matt Ryan either getting flustered or throwing into double/triple coverage. BC abandoned the run and if you are abandoning the run in a 1-2 score game that says something. Even if it doesn't lets take a look at the stats. 18 carries for 32 yards. 1.8 ypc. Lets take out Matt Ryan's negative yards. 14 carries for 54 yards. 3.9 ypc. Hardly Earth shattering. Well if we are going to take away Matt Ryan's plays lets take away the two running backs longest plays. 12 carries for 26 yards. 2.2 ypc. Seems like on the odd occasion BC did run the ball, the Tech defense was in fact there and consistently shut them down which is why BC abandoned the run so early. If you recall, I questioned neither BC's win nor the last two drives. So if you had actually watched the game before commenting on it you would have probably understood your argument was both pointless and baseless and to call me out for making inarguable observations about the play of Matt Ryan would have been a joke as well.
The drops came at bad times when we really needed to convert. As a fan I think our WR corp isn't up to Ryans standard. This is why VT lost the game M. Ryan, QB 25-52, 285 yds 2 TDs, 2 INTs _________________ S. Glennon, QB 15-25, 149 yds 1 TD I'll admit that VTs gameplan of getting into Ryans face nearly worked , but VT had the game won until 2:17 left in the 4th Qtr. I thought for most of that game VT actually rushed 3 linemen?? I say sour grapes because of the tone of your post , I understand you are a VT fan , but come the end of the season , don't worry VT will be ranked above BC , win lose or draw.
I watched a bit of him. His footwork is very sloppy. He better fix that if he wants to be sucessful in the NFL.
Right now he is the best of a poor group, everyone that has been hyped up this year has either underachieved or their team fell out of the National Champ race
He won the damn game...those 57 minutes in which he played mediocre at best don't matter anymore because he won. As long as BC stays undefeated, Ryan should be at the top of the Heisman list. Miami and Florida State shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as BC this season. Both of those teams are garbage.
Are you saying Ryan should be the Heisman front runner because BC is undefeated or because he is the best college football player? I think you misconstrue Boston College's success and Matt Ryan's. Sure Matt Ryan is a large part of the success, but that does not make him the best player in college football. He's not even the best Quarterback.
Hmm Think I'm with you on that one Rambo. Just because a teams undefeated does not automatically make someone a Heisman god. Matt Ryan is not excellent, but hes very good. With a better supporting cask on the offensive side of the ball , he could be excellent. IMO he will be an NFL calibre player and a good one at that.
Look at Matt Leinart...he wasn't necessarily the "best" player (he was still very dominant though, with an awesome supporting cast) in the country when he won the Heisman, but he won every game. I agree that the BEST player should win the Heisman, but the people that actually vote don't seem to think that way. If he runs the table with this average BC offense, he will probably bring in a lot of votes and win the Heisman. McFadden and Tebow have already lost too many games. Dennis Dixon is probably Matt Ryan's main competition right now for the Heisman.
Many, many people thought Leinart was the best player. In fact, most had him going #1 overall in the draft so that is a shitty comparison.
In your opinion that's a shitty comparison -- by the end of this season, and by the time the combine is over, "most" might have Matt Ryan going #1 overall also. A lot of scouts seem to think he has it all...and Woodson's play has started to drop off. It will be between Ryan and Woodson -- Who will go first? Unless McFadden does.
Agreed. I'm pulling for Reesing, the Kansas QB, now though...he's a little big like Doug Flutie. I'd be happy with Dixon, Ryan, or Reesing winning the Heisman.
anyone but teBLOW. Dixon is a baller, and has his team playing unreal ball. I wouldnt mind the cat from kansas though, I just think dixon has it all but wrapped up after this week.
