I found this interesting... On the Thursday night before Good Friday, I had dinner with the Jets and I have to tell you, I totally clicked with their offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. What a great coach, great offensive mind, and he just has this thing about him that puts you at ease and makes you immediately feel like he's on your side trying to get you better. I was really impressed with how relaxed he makes you feel. While I threw 52 passes at my Pro Day, the Jets had me make about 65 to 70 throws in a little over an hour. Maybe we should have planned better because due to the timing of the Jets and Dolphins workouts ? one was on Good Friday while the other was the day after Easter ? we had no wide receivers in town. But we more than made due. I had two very talented tight ends in John Loyte and Trey Koziol, and two running backs who both run routes like a wideout, Andre Callender and L.V. Whitworth. Even with no true wideouts, we didn't lack at all for guys who can get downfield and haul in passes. The difference between the Jets workout and the Pro Day was the Jets wanted me to make throws and reads within their schemes. They wanted to see first-hand what balls I can throw from within their offense. They especially wanted to see my footwork in the pocket and had me make several throws on the move. They wanted to see where I could put the ball when I was forced to move out of the pocket. I was as happy with the performance as I was with my Pro Day, but I got to throw on the run a bit more and show off my arm when under pressure and my footwork a little bit more. I loved it. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7958748/What-question-stopped-me-in-my-tracks?
a great offensive mind?? the conversation with Schotty couldn't have consisted of anything more than "gadget plays".
I think the Jets are just doing their "due dilligence" and not leaving any rock unturned. They will probably evaluate every player slated to go in the top 10. I think Clemens is still their guy.
I dont know about that, I do belive they are doing their due dilligence with the top prospects but the fact that they have been linked to having some level of interest with at least the top 3 QB prospects tells me they are serious about upgrading the position. Now the question becomes are any of them better options than Clemens is?
Guys, we're going to be working out every top prospect. We've been really good at not showing our hand in the last two drafts, and this is no different. Not everything is a sign that we're leaning one way or the other.
agreed...I posted the same sentiment.....the Jets are just doing their homework on all the top prospects.
If the QB position was settled they would not be spending the amount of time that they have been rumored to be spending with the top 3 QB prospects. They are doing their due dilligence in seeing if any of these guys is a better option than what we currently have.
Bingo.... bringing in top picks when you own one of the top picks isn't exactly news. Of course they are checking all these guys out.
Couple years ago, Jets brought in Leinert for stay in NY and a work out session. Both sides were really interested. It was openly said on the media that Leinert will not last till the Jets 4th overall pick and that Titans will pick him up. Titans chose a bust in Vince. The Jets went with D'brick and Leinert fell to 'Cards with the 10th. We had the chance to pick Cutler or Leinert. We eventually picked the 4th QB in the draft. The Jets will pick the QB they think is worth his value. If Ryan is worth the 6th, they might pick him. Otherwise maybe trade down and pick him with a mid first rounder. If not, they will pick Flacco or Brohm with the second. Just my 2 cents...
I disagree. This 100% guarantees we're taking Ryan. I'd bet my subprime mortgage on it. I don't see why we don't package Faneca and this year's #1, plus the rights to Mark Gastineau, to the highest bidder. Why should we try to bluff the market when our choice is as clear as a ticket of Chelsea Clinton/Matt Ryan in '12.
Of course they must look at Ryan. He may be the only one left at #6 possibly worth the pick so they will have no choice but to take him unless he failed his tryout miserably. At least that will fix our biggest problem in the long run.
Ha I don't know. I thought it was funny. My take on this is that it all comes down to draft grades. The Jets will grade out every player, like all teams do, and they will select the highest one available when their pick comes, or potentially trade out (up or down) depending on the value versus the cost - just like last year. I am more concerned that their success with Revis and Harris will make them more likely to trade up to get "their" guy. I do not think we will be taking a QB in the first few rounds this year, possibly a late round flier on someone like an Erik Ainge out of UT or Dixon from Oregon.
Pure draft strategy... If he was that impressed by Schotty, then its our shitty offense- not our OC... Matt Ryan is maybe the most professional prospect coming out of the draft this year. His opinion is well worth listening to. ask any GM that interviewed him, they'll tell you that the kid has a brain in his head. Forget talent on the field for a minute. Ryan has met with alot of teams and they all have been impressed with who he is as a person. His praise for BS can't go unnoticed.
I have to agree with Vision... This doesn't necessarily mean we will be drafting Ryan, but if the Jets were happy with their QB's they probably wouldn't even bother looking at the guy. If Gholston and McFadden are gone...I have no problem with taking Ryan. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and grab a potential franchise QB. Besides...we didn't spend a high pick on Kellen Clemens and he isn't making that much money.
No one can guarantee 100% when it comes to the draft...Thats something I can guarantee 100%. Did u forget that we had a private work out session with matt leinert couple of years ago? We had the chance to select him but did'nt. Anything else mate?
