Glad to see somebody made a thread about Hagler's passing. Nice job, PapaPump. Great boxer, great champion, and by all accounts a great guy. Old-school as hell...Hagler was not only a great boxer, but he was also tough as hell and didn't back down from ANYONE. Also loved the chip on his shoulder...he was 100% GENUINE...nothing phony or pretentious about the man. Stunning that he died suddenly at 66. The Hagler/Hearns 3 round WAR is my favorite fight of all-time.
I caught his best hears, 1980-87. I’m 51 years old so no I didn’t see the beginning of his career but my dad was a huge boxing fan and introduced me to boxing at a young age. It’s because of Hagler that I got into boxing as well, boxed in a PAL in Worcester Massachusetts.
I can respect that, Red Menace. Hagler is probably my favorite boxer of all-time. Have you ever seen the HBO "Legendary Nights" Boxing series, that featured the Hagler Hearns and Hagler Leonard fights? It was a pretty good series hosted by Jim Lampley from around 2002-2003.
Saw the Hearns fight on TV, I knew Hearns was going to get KO’d, going to to toe with Hagler was never a strategy he should have tried. As far as Leonard, he’s overrated held and ran all night, couple of flurries here and there. What happened to knock out the champ to win the title? Terrible decision! I despised Leonard!
RedMenace, I agree, but thank god he did decide to go toe to toe with Hagler bc it resulted in ONE HELLUVA FIGHT!!! haha
You calling Razor Ruddock, Tony Tubbs, Tony "TNT" Tucker, Mitch "Blood" Green, Carl "the Truth" Williams and Trevor Berbick "nobodies" Red Menace?!!! haha
What was your record, Red Menace? were u a toe to toe brawler and bruiser like Marvin, or were u more of a juke and jive and dance and duck and dodge and dive guy, like Sugar Ray?! haha
Now I know you are a true fan, I still wouldn’t get into the ring against Tyson, but he chose to lose his belt and avoid better competition. It was just for fun, I had power and quickness but did not have enough hand speed. I had a lot of fun though.
