    Thanks for the heads-up.

Many of you are too young to remember the radio voice of the Jets, but many others like myself, grew up listening to Jets games described by Marty. Back in the 70's most Jets games were blacked-out locally, so die-hard Jets fans had to rely on a radio broadcast described by Marty Glickman. I can still remember him calling Jerome Barkum "Gee" Barkum (I guess that was his nickname) and I remember when Howfield or Leahy kicked a FG or extra point Marty'd say "it's through there". He'd always be sure to let you know which direction in Shea Stadium the action was - open end, or closed end.

His voice was so distinct, I can hear it now. I'm looking forward to seeing this show.

It was Gerome Barkum with a G and I remember that also. I used to watch the Jets on tv with no sound & listen to Marty. Outstanding. He had some balls marching past Hitler as a Jew in the Nazi Olympics.

I remember Marty, his last year was 1992 but we changed radio guys every few years. From Marty to Spencer Ross to Steve Albert to Charley Steiner back to Marty then Paul Olden(current PA announcer at yankee Stadium by the way) to Ian Eagle for a year then Howard David(my favorite) to Bob Wischusen. It's nice that we have had Wischusen and Lyons for so many years together.

From what I've seen his full name was "Jerome Phillip Barkum" with a J.

You're certainly right about Glickman's balls, but he and Sam Stoller were screwed over by the anti-Semitic Nazi sympathizer Avery Brundage, being removed from their spots on the 4 x 100m relay team and thereby robbed of the gold medals they would certainly have earned.

    Nice.

    For a 28-yaararhd feeelgoal:

    "Signals called...ball is snapped.....and it's booted!....it is high enough!...it is long enough!.........

    .....it is blocked...."
    J/K !

"Hand off to (the irrascible Granite State) Dierking.....he turns the corner!....breaks a tackle!.....and drives upfield for ONE!.....TWO!....THREEEE YARDS ON THE PLAY!!!"

I dunno if this will be mentioned in the special, but there was one Marty Glickman story my parents (who were Jint fans) always loved to mention: Jints driving..end of the 4th qtr..closer and closer to what looks like what might be a game-winning score by the 'giant offense' of all things......with play-by-play Marty Glickman saying something to effect: "...pass complete, first down!....if you are on the road driving,,,,,please pull over!!!............Tittle to the liine of scrimmage........" (well, you get the picture). <---that "pull over!" play-by-play story is a true story that many NY football media sources from that time will attest to.

^^^^ Further, 'THIS' I've heard recalled from a number of different sources ...... "neighborhood Doc Sweeney" among others.....

Marty Glickman: "good!....like Nedicks!" <--from the "real" MSG.

Classy announcer, classier human being. Don't make em like that any more. Would take him calling a game over any of these chucks you get nowadays.

I miss Dave Jennings too, also a great radio guy.
