I'm thinking we resign him after July 22nd when the restrictions are over with, but i'm definitely down with him returning for depth Brunell, Douglas, and pick up Dearth again, I don't think our long snapper is doing too well in practices
It was our emergency long snapper that didn't do well in practice, our current starting one performed well.
I'm really surprised that no one has picked him up yet. He was a pretty good starter on the best defense in the NFL. He wouldn't demand much more than the veteran minimum either. I'd love to see him back on the team
I'm thinking he doesn't want to sign with anyone else. He'll probably end up back here as a rotational lineman.
I was thinking that too. I remember a few weeks ago, Rex said something like, "we can't sign another FA until Marques Douglas signs with another team." I think he mentioned this when asked about Brunell. I think the Jets were just waiting to see if someone picked him up so they could maybe add another FA. If it gets to June 22nd and he's still around, I think he will be back with the Jets.
Honestly... I don't really want him back. I think Rex should coach up our youngsters... after all DE isn't the most important position in a 3-4. DeVito and Ellis should be fine as starters with Pitoitua and Gholston backing them up... I also like Kroul and R. Wright as backups (no idea why, I just do) and I hope we go with a young DE core with Rex coaching them up.
I disagree, Douglas was very solid at DE last year and was a key part of the D-Line; I wouldn't feel comfortable going into the season with DeVito as the starter.
Don't get me wrong... I think Douglas can be a solid rotational player too... I just have this gut feeling we have some young talent Rex can play with in the DL. DeVito in my eyes is a very solid rotational player... borderline starter... and I feel good about Pitoitua, Kroul and Wright... no idea why but I do (well, the CS spoke out about Pitoitua and Kroul and the fact that they have a lot of talent).
