I know this forum's dead (well, this side at least) but this is a little piece of info that Tanny slipped in his presser. What do you guys think? We certainly need the depth. Signals to me we wont be drafting a lineman.
well it is a solid inference considering we already drafted two DL, another would be a little over the top considering the shear number of young guys with potential that we have on the roster. As far as Dixon to tackle, I think he is just going to rotate along the entire DL. But we know you can absolutely never have too many NT to rotate with on game day. Ellis is a big, big boy even at 335 instead of 350, as a rookie he will not be able to go full time. Thankfully we have a stud in front of him in Pouha for him to learn the ropes from
I thought that Tanny was talking about moving him from NT to DT not OT? Usually someone will need to go to the practice squad a year or 3 to make that kind of transition (Ala Brandon Moore). One thing for sure, the drafting of Ellis also guarantees a roster spot for Dixon for the next season or 2 due to his close relation and mentorship of Ellis.
Both he and Tanny both brought it up during his presser, here is a quote from Ellis concerning their relationship:
Marcus Dixon will probably play defensive tackle in four man fronts when guys like Kenrick Ellis and Sione Pouha should come off the field. We'll probably have Wilkerson and Dixon play tackle in certain fronts.
