Did any of you guys know that his nickname is the Penguin? News to me... pretty funny news actually... From espn.com... 2. Eric Mangini - New York Jets Overall - 89 High - 92 (Week 3) Low - 65 (Week 5) Much was made of Mangini being the youngest coach in the history of the New York Jets and the current youngest coach in the NFL. But the former prot?g? of Bill Belichick has hit it off with his team and even earned the nickname ''The Penguin". Why a penguin you ask? Mangini explains a penguin "has a great sense of hearing and is able to adapt its communication in situations to be most effective." Mangini might have some more adapting to do after a tough loss to the Colts and an embarrassing 41-0 rout at the hands of the Jaguars that has seen his approval rating dip to 65 percent
im sad to see that his approval has dropped so low... i still support him... he still has much to learn and will continue to improve...
It was Coles who came up with the nickname, and not affectionately. Mangini heard about this and gave a presentation listing the positive attributes of the penguin. It was a nice move by Mangini, but more evidence that Coles is unhappy in New York.
I was wondering how long it would take you to come out of the woodwork after the Jags lose. Funny how you were no where to be seen after the Bills or Colts game. Typical... But I have to give you props that was pretty good, even if it was a bit of a reach. Take you a few days to come up with it? You must be so happy after KC beat that powerhouse Arizona.
I like Coles a lot. I like his playing style and his enthusiasm for the game. That said, the man is like Zach Mayo now on the verge of dropping out of flight school: he has nowhere else to go. He's walked out of NY, talked his way out of Washington and apparently is working a talking his way out of NY again into the act. The facts are that as long as Chad is the Jet's QB there is no place in the NFL that Coles is going to be happier. We all know his childhood story at this point, and it's rare for somebody who goes through that to be able to bond with other males after the fact. The one good relationship Coles has had in the NFL is with Chad and he needs it a lot more than he needs to be out of NY.
Coles is always whining. I think Chad has now shown that he can worth with Cotchery and I'm sure a number of other WRs, we traded for Coles and gave him a bigger contract, and all he does is whine in return. He has some nice numbers now, let's trade him for Moss or something, as those other threads keep harping about. More realistically, I'd rather just trade for a First rounder, even late, or a high 2nd.
I agree. I like Coles a lot but I do think he carries a great deal of anger around with him. It's sad, but at the same time, I'd like him to STFU already. Mangini's doing the best he can and doesn't deserve this kind of nonsense his first year out of the gate. I don't suppose I could ever begin to understand what it must be like to be abused and sodomized (nor do I care to know), but if Coles' tirades get any worse, maybe Chad ought to talk to him (perhaps the only guy who might be able to get through) and try to nip it at the bud. He's got to realize he's only degrading his own dignity and self-respect by mouthing off. I'm willing to give Coles a pass awhile longer because of the above, but if it continues, he'll be cutting his own nose off to spite his face. "He's (Mangini) the 'General' and I only do what I'm told." Well, if that's the case Lavernaues, then do exactly that and just STFU already. You're one of 5 good receivers on this team and it's a team effort, so, quite frankly, I don't give two shits if you get the ball 20 times per game or 2 times, as long as it gets to somebody. Take your anger out on the field, not in the locker room.
I don't want to make light of his past, but the man is making millions to do something other people wish they could. Everyone has problems, but most people are expected to put them aside and come to work. He needs to get psychiatric help if he can't get past his problems. At the risk of sounding cold, I really don't care about some rich guy's problems. I know enough people in person that have hard lives that don't have nearly the benefits he does.
I agree with Br4dw4y5ux and 227 on this one. It appears at this point that the same intensity that allows Coles to go aggressively over the middle also makes him totally self-destructive when it comes to interpersonal relationships. I don't expect him to get traded in the next 5 days, but I will be surprised if he is on the team next year. This is a guy who is never happy, and probably never will be happy, and he doesn't bring enough to the table to make him worth the trouble.
i agree serphnx, 4-6 td's a year from coles does not help the jets in any way. i wish he uses that 4.4 speed of his and stop whining about his toe or hammy. score some touchdowns mannn!
I'll never call the coach "The Penguin" and Coles can "shove it" .. another dude who should thank his lucky stars that football even exists. What would he do to make millions of $$$ a year to catch a stupid ball? ....... and Jenson is just pissed-off that he lives so close to Perth Amboy ( he sees the crime bleeding into his hometown. ) Hey Jenson! Stick to your own football team's site .... you ain't no JETS fan. Or should I say it in Spanish to make you feel more at home? :drunk:
So is that it, Bob? He's giving you those funky naked fat man dreams again? The ones that make you feel all ooky?
