Austin can't hold up for 16 games.Mingo is boom or bust. He likes the, for the Jets, the best available OL who is not a center and he also likes someone who is not dependent on the QB like a RB. He specifically mentioned Lacey.

I can see his perspective with someone who is not dependent on the QB, say a RB -- However i dont expect our QB situation to be anywhere close to where it is now next year (i pray to high heavens) and a good RB isnt going to change the whole dynamic of team if you can't pass it for shit. So based on that you can't pass up a solid offensive skill position player that can grow this year and have SOLID contribution for 5-10years more.

  3. This is a passing league. It's about match-ups on the outside. You aren't gonna win w/ the best OL in football w/ the talent the Jets usually field at the skills.

Additionally, there are great OL in every single draft class. You just don't see alot of elite skill players. They affect the game instantly & are the great equalizer. Much harder to come by than a left tackle.

Mangini and Polian both made observations many of here have about Austin. His body type won't hold up for 16 games and he sucks at press coverage. So much for Austin playing on the outside against a physical corner.

Why cant Austin hold up? He's never missed a practice or a game all throughout college. He never takes a big hit because he's too fast of a target to ever size up.

I think Austin is a huge mistake ... he will make some amazing plays, but then be injured for parts of every season. I think if the Jets are hell bent on a receiver in the first ... take Hopkins, or Woods in the 2nd.

I don't see the point in taking a wideout because our quarterback can't really throw the ball. Also, parts of the O-line are a sieve. So you can have guys out there running passing routes, but if you can't get them the ball, what is the point? I would rather have a pass rusher who can put the other team's QB on his ass. It's our only hope.

Austin plays in the slot, lines up at RB, and plays ST too. He's much more than your average WR. His speed and game breaking ability are exactly what this team needs. If used properly by this coaching staff but not overused, Tavon can hold up for 16 games just fine.

If Austin is there at 9 he should be the pick unless Jordan somehow falls to us. I used to think that was too soon for him but if we wait till 13 it could be too late

He's going to the NFL, where players are big and fast not just one or the other.

Not sticking up for Sanchez but other than Holmes who was hurt most of the season, he didnt really have anyone to throw the ball to. Draft Austin and dont worry about Sanchez throwing him the ball, he'll make plays regardless of who the QB is.

Austin will get rocked playing with Sanchez who cant hit a target with consistency. Small receivers wont thrive with us because the accuracy needed to hit them is something Sanchez sorely lacks

Not to mention I've been arguing grabbing DJ Hayden early but people saying Kyle Wilson is enough at corner yet dont think Jeremy Kerley is enough for us as our slot receiver

Sanchez is in his last year with us, draft Austin as Hayden who i really like as well should be able to be had in the 2nd. Rex is going to draft a corner we all know that but in the 1st id much rather set us up to be able to compete on offense this year.

I agree DJ Hayden is a hell of a player and very well could be a pick for us .. We have expressed legit interest in him but a #9 or even #13 is just to high we would have to trade down which wouldn't be difficult. I love Tavon very explosive player but his main spot is slot and Kerley is a great slot WR so it's hard to say "Yeah let's pull the trigger on him we absolutely need him" to mention there is a good bit of depth at WR this year, you have guys like Allen,Hopkins,Woods,Patterson we could strike gold with almost any plus they are bigger.

I would trade our #13 for a couple of more picks maybe a 2nd and 3rd and we pick up Hayden with the second and with the other 2nd we get a solid WR and a solid TE with the 3rd and our other third should be spent on a OL hopefully we grab Ivory so no worries on RB

Austin is talented but we have Holmes,Hill and Kerley and WR is not a huge need as other spot to take one in the first rd. Gotta take a pass rusher and maybe guard.

U sure? Harvin is the same type player and he can't stay on the field.

So u think the Vikings will give up both first round picks to move up to 13th? Cause that's gonna be what it will cost them to jump 10 spots.
