Say what you want, but I think that first drive of the Seattle game showed that Mangini was in over his head and eventually cooked his goose. The jets drove all the way down the field running the ball down Seattle's throats. Tony Richardson even had 2 good runs. They then get a 4th and inches from Seattle's 3 and Mangenius kicks a field goal. (?) Any coach with balls (Bill C., Parcells, Marty S.) would have punched Seattle in the mouth and gone for it. Even if you don't get it, you got them pinned on their 3. Did anyone see the Pats/Bills game Sunday? 4th and 2 for the Pats on the opening drive and Bellicheck was going for it until a false false penalty moved them back. Mangini never seemed to make the right call on 4th down--his decision to punt so many times on 4th down IN OPPOSITION territory made me (and his players) think he had no confidence in his offense. Watching that Seattle game I was livid when he called for the field goal as I recall thinking that they probably won't get inside Seattle's 10 again. Mangini's GAME DECISIONS during the last 5 games were some of the worst I ever saw and I think that had a lot to do with his firing.
yeah the seattle game was the death knell for the mangini regime. He totally choked under the pressure. That game probably got woody thinking about canning him. Worst coached game I have EVER seen.
Belichick not kicking the field goal on 4th and 2 is a little different when there is a 60mph cross wind. That said, I agree that we should have been aggressive and gone for the TD.
No need for yet another thread on this, but that's just my opinion. This play has been discussed many times in multiple threads.
