http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...s-leaving-denver-broncos-jacksonville-jaguars Per ESPN: "Defensive end Malik Jackson confirmed to ESPN's Josina Anderson on Tuesday that a report he is leaving the Denver Broncos to join the Jacksonville Jaguars is true and he has agreed to a deal with Jacksonville. A league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Jackson's deal is expected to average $15 million per season and will be a five- or six-year contract. The move, which was first reported by 9News in Denver, can't be made official until the new league year begins Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET. The Jaguars have more than $79 million to spend under the salary cap this offseason." If he's getting this kind of contract God knows what Wilk will want now
The AFC south is making some moves. I don't see the Colts winning the division next year. With no OL, Andrew is about to have some very bad luck.
Jags are gonna be very scary next season. They arent paying anything to their offense outside of Julius Thomas and would be really smart spend a lot more of that cap space on more defensive pieces.
I'm guessing that's exactly the type of contract Wilk is shooting for. was hoping they could get him around 13-14M per, as that is closer in line for 3-4 DE's, but i can see the argument for 15. the cap has gone up quite a bit, and the style of play is comparable to DT's who have been cashing in.
God damn ... Jags are fucking trash man, they had to overpay like crazy to get his services. They gave him elite JJ watt money for being a good player on an elite defense.
And they're not even close to done yet. Supposedly want to add a big-time CB and LB. Good for them. Their offense was already good. I think the Bills get stuck playing them next year out of the AFCE, not sure though.
Most likely if the two 3rd place teams go up against each other. Would make sense for them to target a CB and LB. Trevethan and Janoris Jenkins would be amazing signings on top of this Jackson one IMO. Hard to see the Jags as actual contenders , but something like that could make them favorites in that division.
Yeah, they should definitely compete in that division - its terrible. Houston won by default last year, and they basically did it with just one good player on offense (Hopkins) and one good player on defense (Watt) and the rest are garbage. Luck will be back, but the team is so bad around him I'm not sure it'll make much difference. You'd think the Titans would also be able to compete if Mariota grows. They all should be competing. Should be interesting.
thats free agency, good players get great money, the average get good money and the rest take what ever's left.
While the better NFL franchises that sustain success (albeit with franchise quarterbacks), stay away from all of these cap crippling deals and routinely draft well. The Packers, Steelers, Ravens, Bengals, and Pats are quietly winning free agency by not doling out monster deals to average players.
Yep, between Jackson and Vernon, our hopes of keeping him long term are shot. I'd deal him and get what we can at this point as even if that's a second round pick, I'll take the cap space to go get some more players, and the pick rather than a 3rd round comp for him walking next year while signing no one and possibly losing Fitz.
