One of our bigger weaknesses the past few seasons has been PR. We've been filling that weakness with our talented KR's, but frankly, it's a different position. Justin Miller and Leon Washington, while pure dynamite in the kick return game, have proven to be inadequate punt returners. After that nasty little return against the Browns, is Lowery going to be our permanent punt returner? I just feel that with all the guys we can put back there (Washington, Cotchery, Miller, Revis) Lowery would have the best opportunity to make the position his own and give us some security in the PR game. It would give him a lot of time to develop at corner while still making a solid 2008 contribution. BTW, we stole this guy. Stole him. Thoughts?
IMHO, the 13 interceptions last year show that (as a CB) he's got good hands and awareness (key). However, his college punt return average isn't spectacular (~9 yds per return).. Compare that w/Hester who was averaging 17 yds per return in college. Should be interesting to watch.
He looked like he had a good feel for reading his blocks and turning the corner without too much tip-toe-ing around..... I think we have a lot of talented return men on this team, and that's a competition that's kind of a win-win for us...
At least we're talking about the possibility. He looked good, in one preseason game. Consistency is the key.
