From ESPN Is Faneca stalling to give the Cards time to work out the Fitzgerald situation? Also, the worries about the Dolphins competing to sign Faneca appear to be groundless... Full story here.
The Dolphins already signed Justin Smiley to a 5yr $25 million contract, I doubt they are going to start throwing money at another guard.
If its between us, San Fran and STL, wed have to be the favorites. I dont see SF and STL competing for a long time and I would imagine that winning is important to Faneca considering where hes been playing. We definitely have a step up on those two teams. All we have to do is give him the necessary money and its a done deal.
I want the Jets to be the first team he visits on Sunday and I want them to tie him down until he signs a deal. If he sees someone else first I'll be worried. If he sees the Jets and then goes to see someone else I'll be really worried. I still have a sneaking worry that he's stalling to give Arizona time... maybe I'm paranoid. Hopefully he's just being smart and realising that he has all the time in the world and that if he gets teams fighting over him his payday will only get bigger. Maybe $20 million guaranteed won't be enough...
SF Blows, but STL was injury plagued, especially their O-line. If the were healthy i could see them easily winning 9 games last year and competing with the Seahawks. If Faneca knows this he may choose the Rams, since he would bolster their O-Line immensely like ours. But Faneca would look better in Green than in Blue and Gold.
I do worry that he's trying to buy time for Arizona to clear cap room. But I hope we make the offer (or have made the offer) that blows him away and makes him want to sign here.
i can totally see him going to st louis...why? because he probably thinks we have no good qb here clemmens and pennington arent household names. Well I hope for clemmens...yet
Theres a nydailynews article up by Rich Cimini (I cant post links yet) that makes it seem like Faneca to the Jets is almost a certainty (according to an anonymous source). This would be some way to start free agency- Faneca and Jenkins
dont you think we deserve it...lol plus they better do this, because its their asses on the line. Another 4-12 season for anyone means a new job
He said that on his blog right after midnight. ESPN has said it will take longer and he's scheduling visits. We won't know which report is right until later today. The fact that they were so drastically different makes me wonder. Cimini, as you said, makes it sound as though it's the closest to fact it can be without anything being signed. ESPN made it sound like a 3 team race, with Faneca possibly waiting for Arizona to try and clear cap room. Let's hope Cimini's right on this one. He and Hutchinson are usually the most accurate beat guys, so I'm optimistic.
Thats a lotta green right there, but if Faneca wants money, we are apparently offering it, and very likely are offering a deal nearly identical to St. Louis and San Fran. so hopefully he is coming in on Sunday. But if I am the Jets I dont hold my breath, and I keep in touch with Jacob Bell and try and bring him in for a visit as well. This is a mere precaution in case Faneca is stalling or is leaning towards a St. Louis squad, we can still have a shot at signing the next guy on the list in Bell.
