Anyone can pick in the first few rounds and have a 50/50 shot at getting a productive player, but the key to a good draft is the later rounds. These are guys you might know or might not, but for in a versatile defense where players blitz and drop back every other play guys like these can be a nice fit. No these are not tweeners, but rather guys that know football and can be employed is a wide range of positions. 1st - DT/DE Earl Mitchell from Arizona, 6-3, 315, 4.78 He is much more than a big man with speed; he can play DT, DE and also played two years in college at H-Back and TE. He can plug holes, make holes and has good hands for a DL player. The speed is just a bonus. Projected anywhere from 5th to 7th round. 2nd - DE/OLB Jason Worilds of Virginia Tech, 6-1, 255, 4.55 He lacks experience at OLB and is small for a 3-4 DE, but he is a production player who has proclaimed himself a day one draft prospect. So he said, but really a 4th round pick would be considered a steal on this guy. He has the speed and determination to be productive in the NFL and is nothing like Gholston. 3rd - CB/S Chris Cook from Virginia, 6-2, 212, 4.46 He has experience starting at both positions and can tackle as well as get interceptions. Injuries have been a concern, as well as intelligence, but he can play and is a poor man’s Taylor Mays in this draft. He needs to bulk up a bit of muscle and get stronger, but with his height and speed he would be a good nickel and maybe a decent NFL safety. As a CB/S tweener he could be used in a variety of schemes. None of these are 1st round picks or even 2 thru 3, but finding a diamond in the rough is more fun. At least if these guys are a bust you having wasted much or lost any money.
Ummm Chris Cook will probably go in the late 2nd round....right around where we pick. We have a good shot at getting him but for some reason I don't believe we will.
It's funny, I was just reading this before I read this post: • One guy to keep an eye on as a possible first-round pick that no one is talking about is Virginia cornerback Chris Cook. Cook possesses an elite combination of size and speed for the position and is said to be getting a lot of interest from teams in the back end of round one. http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Predraft-rumors-and-rumblings.html
